After seeing the prices over the past 2 years for vintage 2245 A units, and how horrible their conditions are for much more money than what I paid for this one, I bought it.

I am going to hook it up to a Vintage Post War 2245 TS B Unit, until I find a vintage power frame for the vintage 2245 A unit shell I have.

Although, I drool over the new Neil Young Signature TS, I am not about to pay $900+ for any train set, no matter how nice.

Plus, I am addicted to the post war growl!

I only run conventional on my upper level anyway...

Very pretty Chip.  Do you know if this is the separate sale A unit offered later or is this the A unit from the first issue AB pair?

I'm with you on not wanting to pay the price of the new ones either.

Be forewarned however that your new A unit will run fairy quietly. For the authentic growl you will have to find that original PW chassis with the horizontal motor!

Hi csam,

It's the A unit that was offered separately 6-38103, where as the AB Set was 6-38100.

I could not find this anywhere for under $300.

Usually it was a lot more.

Had to be Lionel, and either a Conventional Classic or Post War Celebration Series.

If it doesnt look good next to the vintage B unit, then I will just hunt down a newer B Unit and buy a vintage power frame for my vintage 2245 A unit shell.

I will have 2 TS sets then!

Was kind of surprised it makes the engine sound even in conventional mode.

Been addicted to the sound of postwar growlers, so I am not sure if the engine sounds of this new one will impress me. LOL

I have both the 6-38100 AB set with TMCC/Railsounds and the 6-38103 A and matched it with the Legacy B unit offered later.  These are beautiful engine sets and the paint color and brightness match those of the PW AB's.  I also have my original TS 2245 passenger set that I got under the Christmas tree when I was 7 years old.

When it comes to Texas Special, what money I have to spend is well worth it to me.  Waiting patiently for the new Neil Young Texas Special set offered in 2013 catalog.
