Ok folks. Let’s see if I can stir the pot a bit on this offering. Anyone else besides me want to see this offering Sooner then
later ?????  Join me and email Scott - let’s see if we can get this moving by tacking it onto another offering that’s also short of reservations. And Let’s see if we can get Amtrak phase 1 AND 3 offered. A few more reservations always helps.  😜
Cheers 😉

Hmmmm. Looks like the stirred pot Quickly Came to a Boil !!!!!!! 😮😳😜😉

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Great News Scott !!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍

While I don't need another Phase I Amtrak Slumbercoach, I might be convinced to add a second Phase III one to my order.   It is the one sleeping car I rode in the most in the 1980's.

I might also be convinced to order one in Penn Central .....   I don't remember - is that on the list?

A pic of the PC version seems to be pretty scarce. I sure can’t find one. Perhaps they were around only Very Briefly ???? 🤔🤔

PRR did not have Slumbercoaches, just the NYC.  Some of the NYC ones were rebuilt by the NYC from 22 roomette sleepers with 10 duplex and 16 single rooms.  These were referred to as "Sleepercoaches".  Most went to the PC while some ended up elsewhere prior to Amtrak.  They were Harbor series cars on the NYC, but were numbered in the 4200 series for PC.  NYC also sold several of their cars to NP in the mid 1960's so these didn't make it into PC.

I will need to do some homework on that one.  PRR did not have Slumbercoaches, just the NYC.  They all went into service for PC, but the question is how many, if any got re-lettered or stenciled for PC prior to Amtrak.  It would have been a 4 year window, so it is likely some did.  Also, not all of NYC's Slumbercoaches were "true" Slumbercoaches.  Some were done with a Pullman Standard plan type and were two berths short of the standard Budd offering.

Great questions!

I Thought I found several PC Slumbercoach pix but upon looking more closely, they were 14-10s converted from 22 Roomettes. 😤
Interesting but not Slumbercoach.

Wow! Interesting, that would explain why we can’t find photos of a PC slumbercoach. So the question is will the PC be cancelled or done based on the sleepercoach lettering & numbering?

@sdmann

Are these aluminum cars painted silver or plated in nickel (or chrome) ?

What is the length of these cars ?

Will the window glazing be clear or blue-green tinted ?

Will the cars include passenger figures already installed ?

Will the CB&Q cars include:

4900 Silver Siesta

4901 Silver Slumber

4902 Silver Rest

4903 Silver Repose

?

The GGD sample photo of the CB&Q slumber coach looks good except for the following.

The PULLMAN sign by the vestibule should be in the same Zephyr-Gothic font as the Burlington letter-board & the Silver-Name board.

Thanks in advance !!!

PC ran car numbers 4202, 4200, 4204, 4205, 4206, 4207, 4208. Cars were part of the merger with NYC.
For BN, they ran cars under these names: Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch, Loch Arkaig, Loch Awe, Loch Sloy, Loch Leven, Lock Lomond, Loch Katrine, Silver Repose, Silver Rest, Silver Siesta, Loch Long, Loch Lochy.

The PC car numbers you mentioned are sleeper coaches based on a 22 roomette car, not slumbercoaches. See Jonathan’s post above.

These are a different floor plan than what Scott is doing. Scott is doing a 24-8 slumber coach.

Great news, the factory needs to do the Slumber Coaches NOW. We will be closing reservations July 10th and they should be done and here by September, 2023.

I'm sorry, we don't have time to change any of liveries. They will be the same roads and car numbers as before.

Regards,

Scott Mann

OH NO! You mean I will have two of the same car #'s [2021] but with different Paint schemes?

Get those last minute reservations in    folks !!!!

Here’s the original 18 builds.
B&O 5, MP 1, Burlington 4, NYC 4, NP 4.

NP later acquired B&O 5 and MP 1 so NP ownership gets to 10.

Burlington NP merger - BN number goes to 14 (but I haven’t confirmed this number). This makes sense though - balances with the remaining NYC 4

I don’t have a NYC (4 cars)  thread but the PC cars are not are not “proper” Slumber Coach cars.  Close …. But different

I believe most ended up with Amtrak. I wonder if all the names were retained. 🤔

Cheers 😉

A week ago on Sunday 07-09-2023, I placed my reservation on the 3rd Rail /GGD website for one each of the following CB&Q Slumbercoaches:

#4900 Silver Siesta
#4901 Silver Slumber
#4902 Silver Rest
#4903 Silver Repose

Please note that the photo of the CB&Q Slumbercoach on the GGD website looks perfect except for the following.

The PULLMAN sign on the car ends is in a RR Roman style font, which is incorrect for CB&Q.

The correct font for the PULLMAN signs on the CB&Q Slumbercoaches should be the Zephyr Gothic font (which is the same font as used in the BURLINGTON & SILVER Name signs in the GGD photo).

Here is a photo of the PULLMAN sign on CB&Q's sleeper Silver Ridge at Illinois Railway Museum.  Although Silver Ridge is not a Slumbercoach, the Burlington Route used this font style on the PULLMAN signs on all of their stainless steel Budd sleepers.

I have also attached an image of MicroScale's HO Slumbercoach decal sheet which has the CB&Q's PULLMAN sign decals in the Zephyr Gothic font.

Thanks for producing these CB&Q Slumbercoach cars !!!

Given the 2nd run of the Hiawatha, I'd like to gauge if there is enough common interest to have Scott possibly re-run the Budd Slumbercoaches.

B&O, CB&Q, NYC, MP, NP, AMTRAK we offered previously. I would be game for a few CB&Q, an Amtrak and an MP.

Well it’s been since 5-27-20 since you kicked off the Slumber Coach Run 2 Campaign. It took awhile - but Thanks for stirring the  pot !!!!  And thanks for Scott for finding a spot to get it Done and including New cars for some of us !!!!! 😜

Cheers 😉

PS The graphics for the updates look great Jonathan !!!!!!
