OK!!
Who here drools, foams or dreams at night about the Burlington Northern? Anyone? Who here models the BN? Or collects it?
What BN needs to be made? By Lionel, Atlas O, and MTH?
Have at it guys!

16. BN 3 Bay Centerflow 6 Car Sets
17. ??????
HA!!
Yeah I will be there on Saturday. I'll stop by and say hi. Surgery has prevented me from carrying anything heavy for a couple of months.
I model BN as well as heritage roads. I think I have every engine/car MTH, Atlas and Lionel have released in a BN paint scheme. The only exception is the terrible MTH FP45. I'd love some BN F units.

Some of your list has already been made!
MTH has not made the BN 4-bay open hoppers in the correct number series yet. They have not had the BN 4-bay open hoppers produced in 6-car sets, unlike other railroads. Get the correct numbers and data on the BN open hoppers first.
Andrew
Lionel has made some of the Burlington Northern. The Tiger Stripe SD60 diesel loco was accurate.
The LIONEL BN three-bay, open-top hopper had the wrong lettering usage, road number, and data because their graphics were from an older, smaller capacity open-top hopper, not a NEW 1970's built open-top hopper.

I've always wanted a set of F units to paint in the BN. I thought were so cool.

BN E unit painting during the thrilling days of yesteryear was a treat.
For the units that got repainted, some stainless steel paneled units got silver noses:
Non-stainless steel paneled units got the full treatment. This one's a little ratty but it was the best one I could locate quickly:
Those units later dedicated to the commuter pool retained the green/white "shotgun" appearance, but got RTAified with the orange and white stripes:
Some of the surviving stainless steel paneled E7's got a little bizarre with green noses and lettering:
Seems like an stainless steel panel E8 or two also got the green schnozz...
I recall seeing some all-silver BN E7's back in the day, but I can't seem to locate an image. There was a regeared pair working out of Clyde on transfer duty for a while.
Of course, some never made it quite all the way back to the paint shop:

Awwwww man, of all the BN paint schemes, that one was the worst. BN called it Executive. I called it "Martha Stewart" because it looked like what an interior designer would paint your living room back then. I simply refuse to own that engine, or any painted like it.
I was just starting to pay attention to real trains when the merger came along in 1970. I've always liked green, but Cascade Green sealed the deal. The predecessors and successor are all good, but BN was the best! (with the one noted exception)
BN is the main focus of my railroad. I can't count all the cars. I have at least half a dozen green engines, and even more in BNSF paint. I don't specifically collect BN, but because it is my "home road", it represents a greater share of the mix of cars.
I never worry about what will be made, and have no particular wants. If I see something at the right price that fits the theme of my railroad, I buy it.
I've learned to control myself over the years, I no longer drool or foam, but simply enjoy.
To each their own.....I happen to like the paint scheme. The BN coal train was my first train set I ever purchased. It wasn't so much the engine, but the these bathtub gondolas that really caught my eye in the Lionel catalog and reeled me in to O scale.

I always thought the "tiger stripe" paint scheme was a good idea gone bad:
To me, it always looked like something New Bright would do.

BN was a very fine railroad and so was the Santa FE(ATSF) then they merged and became a very crappy railroad. does this remind anyone of two other fine roads that became a super crappy road. hint P C
They should break it up, it is like the Federal government, to big to operate correctly. I am sure there are many that would like to see that. I would Love to see my old warbonnets without the BN in it or the colorful BN with out the SF.
I have a few BN equipment on my diorama. Except for the SD70MAC in the executive paint scheme, which in my opinion is the best locomotive paint scheme & the most durable paint scheme on the real SD70MAC (compared to the ATSF warbonnet which look horribly faded these days), most of the other BN purchases were not my first priority. I wanted BNSF. Since BNSF was formed in the 90’s I couldn’t find a large selection of models in BNSF colors in O-Scale. So I had to reluctantly expand my preferences to include some of the pre-merger railroads like the BN.
Here are some images of the BN SD70MAC & Lionel Husky stacks.
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,

I dig the BN...I grew up seeing the E units on the scoots and loved em. The BN executive units are at the IRM, sadly they are really showing the age.
That is a fine MU consist, very colorful. And which even makes it nicer. I am digging the fuel tank car in the middle. I take it the fuel tank concept did not last long, I wonder why.
I also have a bunch of BN cars, no engines however.
I hope this is the correct forum to ask.
1. Does anyone have the paint plans for the executive F3 paint patterns. I would like to try to copy it? Also I believe that Illinois Train Museum had an F3 set but they were modified on the roof but I can not find a picture.
2. Does anyone know if the CZ had E8 B units?
Thanks

My collection consisted of a lot of pre-BN roads when Lionel released the Legacy SD40-2s a couple of years ago. I picked one up and then began to see green. Since then I have been chasing down cars to go along with that loco, and I think I will chase down a couple more locos as well. Seeing a run-of-the-mill green SD40-2 pulling a bunch of green or yellow cars mixed in with a train just seems so 'Midwest in the 80s' to me and looks great!
Now, if only I would have picked up the green crane and sound car when they came out...
I'm another BN diehard.
I'd love to see these made SOON!!!!
E8 in scale
SD-40-2 (please no tiger striping!!, see comments above )
SW-1500
The BN SD60MAC Diesel-electric Locomotives were my favorite.
How this would be made exactly in O Scale 3-Rail would require blueprint scan and output to a 3D printer.
I Would most likely have to settle for an approximation using an SD60M body.
Andrew
This is what needs to be produced by LIONEL.
The trucks must be correct and have a rotary coupler on one end, to allow it to operate in their Rotary Coal Tipple.
The Burlington Northern three-bay, open-top hopper with rotary coupler end.
Thank You
Andrew

Are you talking about the F9's I posted pics of above?
MTH can make the BN LNG SD40-2 and LNG tank car.
The European Tank Car can be painted in the special scheme and put on North American trucks.
Andrew
BN AMERICA 48' intermodal container in the OMAHA scheme can be produced by MTH. They need the BNAZ chassis for the BNAU containers.
Andrew
They were once my employer in St. Paul before the merger with ATSF. I miss them. I have MTH GP-7's and GP-30's along with several pieces of Premier rolling stock. I've got one Railking passenger car and will now try to buy the 4-car set. I want F3's or F7's to go with them. The Executive scheme in the F-units would be great too.
Lionel and Weaver Models have not yet made the Burlington Northern 57' Mechanical Refrigerator Cars in the white body scheme.
Andrew
Lionel needs to make a run of the Burlington Northern Auto Racks on TTGX TRAILER TRAIN 89' Flat Cars for 1970's and 1980's era model railroad layouts. The TTX graphics are for the 1991 to present day era.
Andrew
I 'am in on the BN equipment. About a 1/4 of our stuff is BN, and the majority of the rest of our equipment is BNSF and Santa Fe. Here is just a few items, I will need to take some pics of the rest of our BN equipment. I also included some photos of a set C30s waiting the torch, a caboose still used today with a SD40-2 and a photo of a SD60 that I caught a few months back. Nick

The BN executive "F Units" were/are NOT "F3" type. There was only one "A" unit and one "B" unit, both completely remanufactured at the BN West Burlington Shops. There are photos of them all over the internet.
2. Does anyone know if the CZ had E8 B units?
Yes, someone knows. In fact the answer is; No, the CB&Q/BN had ONLY E5B units, which would occasionally be used on the CZ between E5A, E7A, E8A, and E9A units. Neither the D&RGW nor the WP rostered "E" units, thus they handled the CZ with "F" unit consists.
Thanks

Oh, so THAT is the reason that Berkshire Hathaway, i.e. Warren Buffet, purchased the entire stock of BNSF, and is currently making BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
