Made a quick trip to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry today to help the kids burn off some energy to spare the house from total annihilation!!! The Zephyr was all dressed up for Christmas. Seeing this beautifully designed Budd train in person always makes me interested in getting a model. So I thought it would be fun to start a post for all of those who already have one to post photos and videos here in one spot.

Let's see your Zephyrs!!!

I do not have any photos, but I do have the Lionel Pioneer Zephyr from about 2005 and the MTH Premier & RailKing PZs from about 2000.

The Lionel is my favorite because the plated aluminum body gleams like real stainless steel.

My mother was a few months old when my grandparents stopped on the shoulder of US-34 near Neponset IL in May 1934 to see why so many other cars were stopped.  They saw the PZ speed by on its famous dawn-to-dusk run from Denver to Chicago.

I re-joined the Museum of Science & Industry a week ago so I will visit the PZ a few times this year.

imageAbout 50 hours of hand polishing to get 80 years of grime and oxidation off these 1934 American Flyer aluminum shells! The new stuff from Lionel and MTH may be nice, but these old toys with their nicks and scratches have a charm of their own. Have parts on order for those missing or broken, as well as a new decal set. Hope to have her up and running soon, so the inhabitants of the layout can go for a ride in her new glory! Will be looking for a coach to add for extra ridership!
