Buy anything cool lately?

Picked up a Standard Gauge # 10 loco Sunday at a Montvale NJ train show.

The seller stated that it was restored (for my level it is not so good), It is repainted in a Peacock color (roughly done), loco was re-wheeled and the switch and collector are good. There was no test track and the seller stated that it did run. So I negotiated a good price and purchased the loco.
When I got home hooked up a transformer with test leads and the head lights worked and the motor tried to move. I sprayed contact cleaner in the brush area and got it running in both directions. Sprayed some electrical spray lube now it runs better (needs a complete cleaning and new brushes).
The headlights were loose, tried to tighten them but the screws that hold the lights to the shell screws are to long and hits the bulb and locks the bulb in place. The tabs that hold the brass on are all there, plus when the person assembled the loco they just put a little twist on the tabs instead of bending them over.  The wiring does not look professional at all. Plus when the fellow did the repaint, the roof was left with a small dent and the front and back widows under the roof overhang are bent (did not see this when I purchased the loco).
Anyway it is all there and runs. So with this it will be my next clean and rebuild project since it was repainted.
I still think I got a good deal and glad that I bought it.

At a train show last year I picked up a Lionel 7 car aluminum Superliner set really cheap but didn't have a good Amtrak engine to pull them, that is until now.  This is a heavy 7 car passenger consist that's difficult to pull for one smaller engine so I was concerned the light F40PH might have a problem. Not to worry as this beauty was up for the job.   Footnote: MTH has really improved on sound quality and the price is far less expensive then the other guy......  As it turns out, this is a really cool set.. I'm sold!!!!!

Joe I'm Jealous.  When the Amtrak Downeaster goes by here,there is an engine on each end of the consist, so that they don't have to  move the engine from one end to the other.  That's a beautiful set.  Best of luck.

Staying on the F40PH subject this is my new MTH MBTA engine that pulled into the station Saturday!

    Purchased a real nice NASA Switcher just lately and it finally arrived by US mail today, after I had to chase it down, the US Mail is definitely not what it use to be, Old Ben would be upset for sure.  However thanks to Charlie Powell I now have the Blue & White P3 #3 NASA Switcher that I wanted to add to my NASA Train.  Real nice looking Engine, decently detailed, and this P3 Switcher seems to be little larger than my Red & White NASA P2 #1 Engine, when I finally find my #1 NASA Engine, where ever I stored it, I will do a closer comparison, with them side by side. Marty F has advised me that the P2 & P3 NASA Switcher Engines will play nice together, on my Christmas layout.  I do not have a layout set up right now, is there anybody in the Pittsburgh/Monroeville area that has a DCS layout set up right now, for me to test my new engine on.  If so please let me know.

Last week, I received this Golden Gate Depot model of a Railway Post Office car built for Santa Fe by ACF in 1947.

A Menards Chippewa Valley Farm Supply building and a CVFS pickup truck.

That farm supply is cool!   One I will probably get soon!   Looks great on your layout!

I love the detail on Atlas O Steam Era Classics!  I also really like old billboard reefers!  The two make a winning combination!!  If you bring it to the next Greenberg Show, I'll tell everyone how great it is!  ;-)

G stuff for my spring (train in the yard) project.

I picked up more LGB stuff this past weekend at a train show in Fletcher NC (Asheville) . For one big thing a new complete R-5 circle....good score on that one. 

I hope to stumble over the few more track items I need to finish the outer loop at York. You never know, did real good last time finding a few G track items.

I enjoy the billboard reefers also-have a ton of Atlas,  K-Line , & MTH.   It's REAL easy to snap off the steps and brake wheel/post on the Atlas ones(ask me how I know!).   Might run a reefer block behind my Vision Challenger at Greenberg this July as I haven't stretched it's legs in a while.  Our club members try to co-ordinate with each other so there are different types of trains operating at our various shows.   I'v been following your layout design thread.

I had some rare free time the other day, so I decided to put grab irons on my diesel.

I need to paint the grab irons still, I cant decide whether to remove them to paint them, or paint them in place. The lazy modeler in me wants to paint in place.

I got this poster yesterday in the mail from the Avery County Museum in NC. It dropped right into the Wal-Mart frame I bought this morning with no problem, can't wait to hang it in the layout room!

They look great. "The lazy modeler" in me says leave them as is!  Nice job.
