eBay brought me this little gem:

IMG_20181231_182334

Came to me with a bad smoke motor but the seller refunded me for that as well as it was supposed to be brand me and it had 20 miles on it. Other than that, I am in love with the attention to detail, something I shouldn't be surprised about commit from MTH. The smoke unit is tiny!! It was tough getting to it as this engine is small and super sensitive because of all of the separately applied details. None the less I replaced the smoke motor with a new one and replaced the wick, glad to say she is running flawless now. Looking for some c&o Woodsided passenger cars to match but those will come in due time.

Happy New Year's to everyone!

Thanks!

Like that one, what a cool looking little locomotive!  That must have the small single resistor smoke unit.  I like it!

For my Texas Special repaint project I bought this Lionel full length dome car, with interior and people on the bay.  Interestingly, it's from the 100th Anniversary set that included ABBA SF F3's and seven polished aluminum cars that included 3 of these full length domes.  I had planned to buy a similar, much more common car that did not have an interior but had the polished aluminum, and then add an interior from LIONEL parts/service dept.  This one actually turned out to be about the same price.

Thanks John, I love huge diesels and tiny steamers it seems LOL!

I swear, I thought about you when I saw the smoke unit. It is a one resistor unit and the fan blades don't move a ton of air (they are tiny, yet uses the same motor as the rest of the units do) but it's enough to produce a decent amount of smoke. If they can be ordered from MTH, they may make a great unit for those small super-chuffer upgrades you do. (I believe you are using LC units at the moment, in comparison, this unit is definitely smaller.)

I was going to send you pictures but it seems you have come across them before.

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone had a great/safe holiday.

I actually have a couple of those little MTH smoke units in my parts box.  I also have a couple of the LC+ smoke units, a couple of the MTH HO smoke units, and a bunch of the MTH full sized steam (short posts) and diesel (long posts).  Rounding out the smoke unit gang are an assortment of Lionel smoke units.  Do you need any Seuthe smoke units?  Got those too.

Jeez John!! Your parts box is like Narnia!

I picked up these two Lionel SD70ACe's yesterday from McCormick Hardware.  We made a train day out of it.  Ran our of time to go by Conway, but made it to Corner Field Railroad Museum.  I think they look awesome and I was surprised and happy that they were changed O-36 and didn't use the fixed pilot truck.  Works better for my layout that way when I run a couple engines together.   My ES44AC's don't like my O72/54 curved switches lashed up together.  Bad news though, I had some trouble with the front coupler activating on some of my curves and the rear motor not running at the same time on UP1943.  Took it off the track a couple times and eventually everything worked except for the front coupler which no longer works.  Something got hot inside because I can smell it.  Needless to say 1943 is going to need some warranty work!  Also, be aware of the bar that is above the coupler, it moves and can get stuck underneath the body and not let the truck to move freely.  NS1111 had no problems and ran awesome!  Smokes real well.
