went to the New England Model Train Expo in Marlborough MA by the HUB Division of NMRA. Ended up spending over $150 mostly on Arttista figures from Crusader. This is a very good show with plenty of dealers and some beautiful layouts. It is my favorite show because it is the perfect size for me with limited mobility. Springfield MA is getting too big for me to walk through, so I probably will stop going this year.

Not a purchase, but a good friend gifted me a Flyer 336 UP Northern (with big motor); he'd gotten it for a song along with other some other Flyer that he was going to convert to run with his Marx 3/16ths O gauge.  I have a nice prewar Flyer 572 3/16ths O gauge Northern that might get a big motor transplant.

A trip to the dollar tree store at the corner brought a small surprise in the way of a 4.5"square gift box.

There was  actually two sizes. This larger one has " 9' doors" (2¼"), but Im still having doubts about it fitting on my tiny 30"x30" Christmas layout. Luckily, there is a smaller version too if this one cant be shoehorned in.

Pretty neat for $1.06 total. IMG_20161204_214128IMG_20161204_213706

Went to Charles Ro Lionel Open House on Saturday morning.  A good crowd of parents & g'parents with little kids.  I didn't get anything Lionel (i.e. Sound car,IMG_0449  already have the Bangor & Arrostock) but did pick up an oversized MTH CSX Flat car with cover and some Scene Scapes, Blue spruce & Pine trees as an alternative to Woodland Scenics trees.

It should run with the CW if the track layout isnt "huge" and train length is reasonable.

Horn/bell , and general operating sounds will be there. Some will be accessible via certain combos of horn/bell controls, but some features and choices won't be.

You should be able to review the manual online at the Lionel site for specifics as they are usually fully explained in my experience.  "To trigger bla bla bla, give two long blasts one short" etc etc.

I just noticed your new. Welcome.  I sort of wondered why it was in this thread, lol.

Not a huge deal, but you should start a new thread for a stand alone topic like that. It would make searching the info out a bit easier for the next person.

That said, once its running....we do want pictures and another post   Post here, post a new thread of your very own, it doesn't matter too much. But please share.

I bought a tender harness for my MTH Imperial Big Boy. While not a cool purchase on its own it was an essential part of getting it back up and running for our Christmas Tree Layout. The other steps in the repair were re-charging the battery and re-soldering one of the wires to the front drive motor. Needles to say the repairs were a complete success and it is now working under my Christmas tree.

I bought a lot  which ended up actually being two complete sets of AF S gauge trains.  Set 1 is a 1949 set 4914A with a 322AC Hudson, red 718 and three red 650 coaches.  The engine was wrapped in a 1965 newspaper.  the red cars have the white mold release residue all over them.  I have cleaned two cars so far and they look great.

The second set ends up being from 1957 and is a 293 steamer and tender plus a 984 New Haven boxcar, 916 D&H gondola, missing canisters though, 940 Wabash hopper and the 930 caboose.  The two extra cars are a 913 GN box car and a 630 lighted caboose.  I'm working on cleaning them up a few cars each night.AF 4914A set

Big Jim,

I like the church a lot!!  I haven't seen City Builder before.  I see they are a British company producing paper kits.  Have you built any before?

Exceptional; where may one buy this kit?  Are all pieces painted?

You can find them on ebay. Yes, everything is printed in color.*
Here is the Ice Cream Stand that I built.
*The only thing is that when pieces are folded, it will leave a bare seam that sometimes needs to be colored to make it look better. Here I used blue tape on the roof seams and white paper formed around the edges of the building.

Big Jim,

Looking good!!  Yes, I think the white seam is a common problem.  I saw where someone uses felt tipped markers to color the seams a similar color as the adjacent paper print.  That could be a lot of felt tipped markers, unless you are someone like me who has an artist daughter who gave me her old felt tipped set when she got a professional set.

Yes, I did !!  Went to the TCA show and bought  two standard gauge hopper cars. One is a Lionel 114  with hook couplers that goes up to the bedroom layout with the other early cars -a gondola and a boxcar. The second was a nice IVES hopper car that has two  panels in the bottom to dump like a ballast car. I want to add some more Ives freight cars, I have more than enough  passenger ones. Also picked up my Lionel Super Standard motor I got at the last TCA show-cheap.  Has an AF  E-unit in it. That went in a #8 I have. Also picked up a teeny weeny  O gauge tender for a wind up engine. Saw one gi-raffe car, no price-no dealer-no sale !!  Pet peeve. I thought it was a good show, seemed to be a nice mix of dealers. Not sure about the turn out but the weather didn't help although most roads weren't too bad. Another show Jan. 29th  !!!

Nice. also went to the TCA desert division show. here is my son with his score. a Lionel dash 9. he is stoked

hello theteejmiester

That 4-4-2 E-6 really looks good in your hutch, perhaps add few cars and caboose would be perfect.  I do wish to put my S.F. 5011 2-10-4 in a hutch with dozen cars too but don't have a hutch yet lol.    I am not sure if the glass plates would carry such weight of the Texas type locomotive and its 16 wheel oil tender, being 32 inches long   I am expecting a Santa Fe caboose to go with this engine in few days .
