I picked up this last week from Mario's Trains. They found items on their warehouse that weren't listed on their site, and this was one of the many items they listed last week. They also had the Phase III Heritage "Empire Builder" scheme, but that was sold by the time I got off work and had time to think about which one I wanted to get. So I ended up getting this one, because I will not be able to find another one of these again...
Only issue is that the marker lights barely light up when they are on, so I will need to give it to my local MTH authorized service center so they can figure out what is causing that. Thankfully this model still qualifies for the 1 year warranty.
This will be my last purchase for at least half a year, minus the 2 Lionel pre-orders that I have coming at the end of the year, since I am looking to purchase my own car by the end of the year. With help from my sister, she's paying for half of it since I drive her to work every weekday on top of driving myself to work.

Somewhere during the year I bought this mother polar bear and her cub (who is holding a bottle of Coke). Today I replaced the tiny dead battery in it, and the screen merely counts from 0 to ? every time you press the red button. It's going onto my Christmas lay-out.

Just received this mail bag hook kit from Precision Scale for use in making a better RPO from the LIONEL TCA RPO 15" aluminum car that is serving as a donor for my Great Northern Empire Builder train set. The LIONEL car has no hook.
GN bought six RPO's in 1950 and a surviving, restored version, #42 in Empire Builder livery, is featured in this piece on RPOs:

Accidentally posted this in the wrong thread ^^;
I got some new train pins to add to my collection as well as a few oddballs. The new ones shown below are the 794 "100th Anniversary" (Got at Sunset Station when UP 4014 was in town) and B&O and Sunbeam (ebay purchases) in the middle. The ones at the bottom aren't train related, I just had them there when I took the photo.

Quite a bit of some cool (to me) stuff lately (just got an inheritance and more space):
All the American Freedom Train (1976-series) cars (waiting on the locomotive becoming available - the GS-4)
All six of the Lionel National Toy Train Museum (NTTM) cars
All of the "Spirit of '76" boxcars (13 in all: 6-7601 thru 6-7613).
Lionel 75th Anniversary Reefer (Lionel 75th Anniversary 1585 Set): Locomotive plus 6 cars and caboose; already had one of the cars)
K-Line "Twelve Days of Christmas" (all 3 sets of 4 cars each)
All the items except the K-Line items are brand new. Didn't think all this stuff still existed - in new condition.
A good day at the open-air market. The first three fellows will be part of a lunar railroad I plan to build in the future. (Get it? A lunar railroad in the future?) The next two guys will be part of this year's Christmas lay-out. And the last photo?
Two bucks for a battered, 12" high can of Lego "Knights Kingdom." I assembled this guy from the parts inside. Don't want him and don't need him, but that's what happens when you buy battered cans full of Lego parts.

Lionel Great Northern "Oriental Limited" Pullman Sleeper & Diner from the Muffins. These cars are nice and a good match for my K-Line Pullman Diner. One problem, 3 journals came off the trucks. Lionel where is your Quality Control? I'm tired of buying new unused product with problems. This becomes a real problem for the retailers because I'm probably going to the USED market here on OGR & at local shows. I'm tired of fixing new products.

I went to a gentlemen's house that is trying to sell his collection. He has been working on it for about 5 years now. I've gotten some great stuff from him in the past. This past Sunday I bought 3 new to me books, some more super O track, a custom painted Reading hopper car, a 167C whistle button (which works much better for me than the regular 167) and this diesel shell.
If you're not familiar with General Models Corp. it is worth the read. I was introduced to the company through a little red and yellow speeder (that they call a handcar) that my dad bought. They made several steam engines and diesels in the late 40's into the 50's. They made this NW-2 switcher and the whole thing is metal. You could buy one as a kit and they came ready to be equipped for 2 rail, 3 rail outside and 3 rail center. They were very nice and Lionel was not very happy about them making a diesel switcher so they made their's which is one of my favorite engines from postwar Lionel.
There is an interesting switch on the inside of the hood. It is a turn style switch but it connected to the rear smokestack. I'm not sure what it is for other than some kind of e-unit.
Anyway, not sure what I'm going to do about building a frame and what kind of motor I will use but I'll keep everyone updated as the project moves forward. Or more like it, when I find time to start working on it after I find time in between life and my other projects.

Well train friends, it’s been awhile since I’ve had a minute to say thanks for posting the neat train and related pictures. There’s some nice cars, trains and related here on this thread. I attended York last month and had a great time. Everyone was carrying packages to their cars/SUV’s, and going back for more. There were lots of train and related pieces for sale. Being that I have many items on order, (BTO) I has to be careful. Wow, it’s an addiction.... I did find the one train car I was looking for, the Lionel L&N Box car.... This is all I purchased.... I wish everyone a happy holiday season. Run these trains.

Unfortunately, due to health issues, wasn’t able to attend the Allentown meet last weekend which only shows how sick I was at that time. Layout is in a state of flux as I prepare to move over the table to make it L-shaped so forgive the messiness. All items bought from either 1 of 2 LHSs, eBay, and a vendor outside a model train exhibit in a local flea market. Despite flare ups from health issues, over the last 2 weeks, when I’ve been feeling well, I’ve picked up some nice pieces and some things that will definitely revolutionize my layout! Enjoy!:
1st Up- the revolutionary part I was talking about- MTH DCS! Set it up on a test loop, stil trying to get a feel for it(not nearly as easy as the original TMCC, but nothing worth having ever comes easy !)
K-line Stone walls surrounding the church. Not hooked up to be lighted yet but really like these.
Both of these from eBay. I LOVE the postwar “motorized units” and, technically, my first engine was the same as this Amtrak switcher(mid-90s Crayola set). The box car is Weaver and looks great on my Amtrak consist.
Got 6 of these telephone poles came in a bag of accessories . They seem to be HO but they work well as telephone poles in on a street especially in this sentimental, separated portion of my layout ( single O-27 single-loop w/ a spur. Scale goes to the wayside here as this part is dedicated to my grandfathers, my father my great uncles and things they gave me. Focuses on the Lehigh Valley and it’s stores and industries from the 50s.
Mack Truck by Wintoss and Dinky Toys stop light. The truck is 1/64th scale and will eventually find a home on my LV layout.
I love these lights. Have the newer MTH ones but these are the Lionel postwar versions. Great Northern Hopper was a $5 item I bought with my DCS System. For some reason I’ve really started to like Great Northern since I picked up an RMT Great Northern Buddy.
Kinsmart 1999 Lincoln stretch($1)limo with(mayor/governor/president) whoever I feel it is at the time ha. Has a police escort of cars and 1:43rd scale Royal Canadians by Britain’s.
Postwar PRR 2452 gondola with box(not that into boxes ). “Whirley(break) wheel” variation with the “flying shoe” on the trucks.
Williams N5C LVRR caboosefrom my LHS, came in the box. The NYC hopper I bought from the model train exhibit’s shop, is Coupled to the caboose(for photo purposes only ha) 3 bay hopper which I believe is by Weaver(905024).
Really like this 40’ high cube box car- first one I ever bought. When I went to the model rail exhibit shop yesterday, this was on the wall just as asking to be put on a nice LV consist. 2013 MTH Premier Norfolk Southern Heritage series
Some new die cast soldiers patrolling m at the DMZ. Unknown maker but They’re s-scale in size. Haven’t looked up the flag or it’s meaning(if it has one). Besides an MTH set, a k-line/o-line reproductions set, and some mid 2000s Corgi diecast figures, it’s extremely difficult to find 1:48(preference) to 1:64 scale soldiers so I always jump at the chance to pick them up:
This Solido Mercedes G-class 1:50 scale military truck(replica of the 1988-1991 type used during UNIMOG- United Nations Iran-Iraq Military Observer Group) is helping maintain the perimeter around the restricted area before the DMZ. I wish the previous owner hadn’t painted on the Red Cross symbol but not a big deal. Action News 6(tootsie toy from my dad) granted access with a press pass.
Last 2 pictures: Jersey Central ABBA “Beefs” from RMT. All units are powered except for the #53 A unit. Horn and lights don’t work but, ofherwise, after some cleaning and lubrication, all powered units run great on their own or when connected. I’ve had my eyes on these for months because 1.) I like RMT, 2.) Always wanted at least an AB Beef and 3.) the price was too good to pass up. Didn’t think I’d like this consist as much as I do but these little guys are pretty neat!
Now it’s time to try and do my first software update on my DCS- wish me luck!!
Steve

After seeing the video of the new scale Hudson, which I ordered, I decided to get a few more military cars from MTH. Those end up being my sons favorites. @MrMuffin'sTrains is shipping me the 105 howitzer 4 car set. I can see they will go well with the tanks, ambulances from MTH and a special run from stockyard express, a hospital car.
Early Christmas or wait until Christmas is the question.

Steve, I hope you get feeling better! Those are all great deals. My first venture into command control was DCS back in 2012. There are plenty of folks here who will help you along as they did me.
Saturday (16th) I visited English's Model RR Supply near Williamsport, PA for the first time, and picked up a new RK Beth Steel gondola & some Scenic Express people. Really nice full-line RR shop with literally everything, little detail pieces to big engines and all in between. Several operating layouts, etc. Best of all, friendly, knowledgable people ready to assist. Good amount of post-war Lionel & many "letter" transformers, ie: R, TW, ZW, etc. I'll be back to p/up my MTH pre-orders !

@Mark Boyce thank you, Mark, for the well wishes. Greatly appreciated. There a lot to take in with th DCS system but I know I’ll get the hang of it with time. I have TMCC engine but no MTH yet so you can imagine what will be next on the agenda! I’m excited to see what the system can really do as it seems like it has a TON to offer(purchased the 3rd edition of the DCS companion as well).
Yes, the DCS companion is definitely helpful. I still only use basic functions however.
Made a very big purchase yesterday, with help from my dad and sister. Got this 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback in the Sport Trim, as well as in this really nice color called "Aegean Blue Metallic." So far it's a great car, and it will come very much in handy for going to and from my local model railroad club.
With this purchase, that means no model train purchases for at least half a year (minus the 2 pre-orders I have coming in next month from Lionel).

Yes they are Williams. I believe they are the same ones Williams was making in the '80s. I wanted them back then but couldn't afford them. There are two more trailer coaches not shown in the photo. Since my yet to build permeant layout will have catenary, I am going to look for pantographs that will actually work. The Williams pantos are cheesy sheet metal.
Got this from MicroMark on sale with no shipping.
It's a Microlux Micro power sander that I'm going to put to use in finishing my delicate 3D resin prints. I ordered it with a couple of packs of sanding medium in two grits. It will greatly ease the job of removing the leftover material when supports are removed from a printed part. It has several heads for sanding head on and for working laterally.

I just got this book for the 716th Railway Operating Battalion, scored off eBay. It's also online: https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/...p;context=ww_reg_his
Turns out that Company C of this unit was involved in the largest monetary loss by a unit in the ETO as entire trainloads of materiel were allowed to go 'missing; between D-Day and September 1944. Many of the enlisted men became riflemen and several officers went to Leavenworth.
I was very surprised to find out that included with the book, the box that it came in, which is also in very good shape. I've never seen one with a shipping box before, and now I know whose copy this is...

I received my Post-war #460 piggy back set yesterday. Excellent condition. Doesn't look like it was played with much. I quickly discovered that it's best to have the brake wheel stanchion on the flat car opposite side of the track.....LOL I kept hitting it with the trailer when loading or unloading.
The operator looks like an HO scale figure, so I am not sure if it's original, but it is the typical Lionel blue.
I think the grandkids will have a ball with it.

Vincent,
they are both very nicely detailed cars, and being that grain operations is the main focus of my layout I’m always looking for hoppers like these. Lionel and K-Line also made very nice extruded aluminum models of the ACF 2, 3, and 4 bay models, they are also harder to find, especially the 2 bay.

I won't get to play with it until Christmas, but I just bought one of Malcolm's Southern cabooses.
Just arrived today, a reworked 2035 post-war loco and tender. Purchased from an Ebay seller who was very gracious and worked with me on the price. He added some railing detail, cab figures and lighting, raised headlight and of course a repaint, sorry post-war purists.....LOL The smoke unit works beautifully.

West acquisition is a pre-war crossing gate. These gates are more to scale then the larger ones made after the war but which were also made prior to WWII. These smaller gates are quite impressive. There is even an adjustment for the arm. When I first powered it up, the gate would not lower but the bulb lit. After I adjusted the spring, photo 3, the gate lowers perfectly.
I also have an MTH remake with dual gates. I wonder why Lionel chose not to make these after the war ?

I like that as a fan of tin. Those #46 gates sometimes had a small pedestrian arm over the green base section. I agree about the postwar production question as they appeared to be going more in a scale direction at that point.

This arrived this afternoon - just a day after my 26th birthday!
I found this Lionel OO Gauge Set - no. 0090W - on the bay for a great price (a little over $650) considering the condition and contents.
The set came with the boxes (albeit in less than ok condition with the set box in rags), an oval of two-rail track, a scale Hudson with a whistle tender, all 4 die cast freight cars, and even an original 1942 catalog!
The Hudson came with a slightly broken trailing truck (which you can’t see), but otherwise everything looks top notch condition, especially considering it’s almost 80 years old. The freight cars especially. I’ve gotta get it all looked over so it’s all in working condition, but I feel just like a kid back in 1942 when this set was first released.
Especially with that catalog to look back on all the classic items. I think I’ve cemented myself on collecting prewar Lionel now.

I’ve been meaning to post for the last 3 days but finally getting around to it(plus I’ve made some more acquisitions):
First Up, MTH LV Railking single-some tanker from my LHS
Combo of eBay and LHS purchases: FasTrack transition pieces, FasTrack bumpers(bumpers and transition pieces serve a purpose otherwise I wouldn’t have included them in my post)MTH flashing barricades, lighted lock-on, Amtrak Passenger shelter
Thione is my favorite, have been waiting at least 6 months to get it and finally found it at the right price
To the left of the camper, a picture of one of the MTH flashing barricades(had to time that one just right!). Found them for cheap on eBay so I went for it and am very happy.
From the west end of the layout, behind the prewar lamp is the MTH barricade controller. Inside the Bing passenger station is one of the model power peel and stick lights
Bought a large grass mat and put it down on about 2 and a half feet of the West end of my layout, looks so much better.
Remember the FasTrack transition pieces and earthen bumpers mentioned above- see below:
finally got this Corgi “Forward March” 1:50th Scale Toy soldiers set on eBay. Came with the half-track(snow covered vehicle) and 3 1:50 Scale soldiers- 2 of which are patrolling the border
Happy thanksgiving everyone!

RIP-OFF REVIEW!
The unpowered locomotive in my Disney train set is pushed by the tender. But the locomotive keeps having problems. So when I saw this Chinese knock-off in a Mexican store, I decided to go for it. It is unpowered, was missing two pieces, and there were mistakes in the instructions. I had to remove a small section to get everything to fit. The imitation Lego blocks were difficult to snap together.
And then I kit-bashed it, replaced the original locomotive, and it runs great!

HAHA @Former Member !! Believe it or not- it was worse BEFORE the fastrack and earthen bumper!! It's actually meant to look like thescene from the movie "The Horror Express" with Christopher Lee(train on the Trans-Siberian Railway). Anyway, when it was in a more stable state(aka the car being picked-up wasn't over halfway passed the edge of my layout) I did some switching with my TMCC dash 9. But, the siding is so small to begin with the enjoyment of it wore off quickly.

26, eh Thomas. Nice buy, you have a good eye for trains.
Lucky dog! In another 20 years you should be able to buy prewar and postwar for practically nothing from others your age who inherited their father's and/or grandfather's trains.
I have over 20 "train friends" and only one of their adult offspring shows any interest in trains. Seems that most grandkids usually like to play with them when young, no interest in operating or collecting thereafter, a shame
I went to Portland today for my 50th birthday, got these publications, the HOn3 annual has several ET&WNC subjects. Also got a plastruct ladder for a broken one on my water tower, and the metal piece came from the group who handles SP 4449. That's a piece of one of her side skirts, with paint from the Freedom Train colors...

Maybe? I hope so...since l am a nut on (several types of rail side structures, but) especially grain elevators, l buy and build O scale kits of them. One l balked at the price. It showed up very cheap on the net! I glommed it, but...is it complete? Can't tell as it has no instructions, but l suspect not. This may be the Altoona Nanton Elevator. Have you built one of these and done with instructions? Or, horrors, l hope this isn't a kit that only has instructions on line?? I missed an elevator in a drive from St. Louis up to Mark Twain's Hannibal, and an HO model was offered, but plans only on net...grrrr...and guy would not sell separately....so had to scratch build one from photos. Hope plans exist on paper for Nanton?

Last week, I had to stop by Grzyboski’s to pick up my NYC J3a. They had one of their special run Lionel Delaware - Lackawanna C-420’s on display... one seems to have followed me home!!!
It has very nice graphics, runs well, and has excellent sound. Luckily, someone noted on another thread that the manual incorrectly identifies the hatch you need to remove to access the controls, so I was able to find the correct hatch and program the engine and turn off the smoke. Even luckier, programming the new ID worked perfectly.
On Grzyboski’s website, it states “This engine can be seen daily operating around the Steamtown National Historic Park”... of course, when I was there earlier that day, it was nowhere to be found, but, I hope @Tim O'Malley won’t mind if I borrow one of his Midweek Photos from a couple of weeks ago...

I much enjoyed seeing the Lionel model and then the real engine picture (even though borrowed). Thanks. Nice colors by the way.
Paul, I always like seeing special runs, and I always liked doing business with Grzyboski’s at the Monroeville Pennsylvania Greenburg shows
Bought a couple of things the week of Thanksgiving that I'm finally getting around to posting. Thanks to ebay, Nick Smith's and more!
First up(wow poor quality, apologize for that) K-line by Lionel B&O Boxcab that I picked up at Nick Smith's(downstairs) love box cabs, steeple cabs in toy or real life and like pre-war trains so finding an excellently priced modern box cab was nice!
MTH Railking LV Diecast quad hopper- woah is this guy heavy! Tinplate semaphore is from Nick Smith, "guardrail" is a plastruct truss I painted for my expanding road with smaller vehicles.
Another shot of the hopper which looks great with the Williams N5C Caboose(also diecast). Recently purchased a C628 LV Snowbird that was advertised as Proto 2, but, unfortunately it was the locosounds version
EXTREMELY HAPPY to have picked up this Nick Smith exclusive trolley! The Liberty Bell Limited ran between Philly & Allentown(where I live) the trolley says "Allentown Special" on the black plate. Also new- soldering iron,(upgrade) my first fastrack switch, MTH UP switchtower that I bought at a LHS and all the figures are from 4 different ModelPower packs which I purchased for $5 each.
MTH row house and Lionel Work house again with new Model Power figures. I bought 3 of those MTH piers, 16 Fastrack elevated trestle pieces, and a graduated trestle set(bag in back of photo) for a dollar a piece at an LHS.
AHM Borden's reefer. Bought this just for the novelty of having an AHM o-gauge piece. Also, love that it's a Borden's.
Still gotta open these postal workers up. The green truck is a 1:$3 scale road champs from my grandfather. Plasticville police station isn't new- just setting there to set the seen.
Final shot of what will be going on my layout extension in addition to a good deal of other accessories!

I am collecting items for a future "To the Moon, Alice!" train lay-out. And they've come up with a nine-piece set of magnificent Star Wars ships for about $10.50 apiece. Each package also includes a part for a Death Star that takes all nine ships to complete.
Of course I know it's a rip-off designed to make you buy the entire set! (But I bought all three that Walmart had, and even though I'll never get the full set, the three pieces are very well-made.) I had to steal photos off the web, and I added a photo of the back of the package that shows what the completed Death Star will look like.

We were at the Kennedy Space Center last week (we actually saw a rocket launch to the International Space Station - way cool!) and I bought these items in a play set that I'm gonna detail and add to Cape Warrenaveral. More pics will follow when I get around to that.
I also picked up some cool 1:48 Star Wars figures in EPCOT, and a robot from South of the Border in SC that I will work on.

Did you know K-Line released these items:
K691-8015 - NASA Flat Car w/Capsule & Helicopter
K691-8011 - NASA Die Cast Flat Carw/Rocket Booster
K691-8012 - NASA Die Cast Flat Carw/Rocket Booster
I have seen them recently on eBay.
I ended up purchasing all three which can removed and put together to form a ~3 foot tall rocket.

I just got my 1/43rd scale Chevy 1.5 ton truck, out of Estonia. I was very surprised, as I got the model in just 12 days from the order.
Hopefully, with some of that testors Evo stuff, I can remove the few markings on this thing and go to work on it right away. I'm very, very happy with the quality of this model, and though it wasn't cheap I'm very glad I got one!

Picked up a LW transformer, not sure why - looks cool. It is powering the 646 around the tree.

Bah-humbug, Bob Cratchit... my techno-peasantry is still in full vim and vigor. Since they did away with the orange modules, all programming involves is picking a unique ID number and then running the engine over my one sensor track - that transfers all the detailed data to the Cab2. Easy-pesy.
May the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come pay you a long and fruitful visit
Sincerely;

Okay, so I didn't buy any of this, I have some long time friends that worked for the BNSF P.D. that are now migrating to my industry. This is what they brought me. I'm like a kid at Christmas!!! This is really cool, especially the mugs!

Added some more rolling stock to the fleet.
The Yuengling tanker and the box car came from a forum member. The D&H car from Trainz.
