can dcs run err equipped locos in command mode?

    I do not know if it will work with just the TMCC Base, I do believe it will with the Legacy Base connected to the TIU with the correct cable, sense TMCC is controllable with the DCS HHRC & the Legacy Cab2 both, and the ERR is the same as TMCC, so the DCS Hand Held should operate the ERR.  I will not know this for sure however, until Guns gets my 249 upgraded with ERR back to me.

ERR command equipment is TMCC  in terms of the technology, and is in fact now owned by Lionel, although the company was founded originally by Jon Zahornacky, Lionel's chief technology officer for some years now.  ERR equipped locos should behave pretty much like TMCC locos when commands are issues by a TMCC or Legacy command base, whether those are controlled by a cab-1/cab-2/1L or DCS handheld.

Never did it myself since I do not use DCS.  However, many posts on the forum have come from DCS users who have converted PS1 locos to TMCC using ERR's equipment, operating them using DCS, TMCC or Legacy, so I'm confident in saying ERR is equivalent to TMCC.  Since the TIU is issuing TMCC commands as published by Lionel, should be fine.  If in doubt, contact ERR.

I have several 3rd rail engines that have ERR in them. Never had an issue with them with DCS.  Same as any Lionel engine.

Thanks everybody,  this gives me a whole new avenue to consider for upgrades.  Anybody got a used tmcc base they are willing to part with?

I was part of a group that tested the CAB-1L.  I tested it using the Base-1L connected to my DCS TIU, running a Lionel GP9, GGD E7, and a MTH RailKing RS3 (with ERR Cruise Commander) and all worked fine using the DCS handheld or the CAB-1L handheld.

jhz563, to program the ERR install, you will need the Lionel 12969 TrainMaster Command Set which includes the TMCC Command Base and Remote.

The ERR engines run well with DCS.  I had one of my SMR engines upgraded with an ERR kit (the other was upgraded with DCS Proto2).  The engine does run better with my Legacy system but if you do not have any other Legacy engines, the performance improvement is not significant over the TMCC system using DCS.
