I have an E8 ABA unit, C&NW #20-2237-1. It doesn't operate properly. About half the time it works on DCS. Turning power on and off sometimes gets it to operate. This is an early unit made before the command base (TIU) was available. I sent it to MTH for repairs and never had it out of the box to test since 2001. I replaced the 9 volt battery.

I want to send this unit in to get it repaired, or upgraded. who can do the work?

You replaced the battery which is a good thing.. I would almost bet money the center rail rollers need a good cleaning,  spin, and lube if the engine has been sitting for years. Especially the pin that goes through the roller. I use a little  WD-40 and a dremel with a wire brush to spin the roller. then lightly lube with oil . Is it worth a shot?? I think so and it's easy to do. maybe start with the leading "A" unit.
