Birthday present to myself last month, just arrived.

Collector's Models LLC repro of the Std Gauge Dorfan 3930 Crocodile. Now to find the passenger cars that came out last year.

Does anyone know what years these were made and did MTH take over the tooling?

Steve, MTH did not get involved with this engine. Their loss.

You could get MTH Dorfan passenger cars to pull with it, but again, the green does not match.

I use my green 3930 T Reproductions engine to pull the set of vintage Dorfan freight.  These are worth picking up as you come across them.  They sell surprisingly reasonably, considering how uncommon they are.  Fun to collect one at a time.  I got replacement MTH Dorfan trucks from Midge to put under them, since they usually come with disintegrated trucks or Lionel replacements - which I guess is one thing that keeps their price down.

The Dorfan freight cars, even in C-5 or C-6, are really quite something, and almost always better in person than photos.  They are the only Standard Gauge lithographed freight.  This engine goes quite nicely with them.

It's a great little engine, runs flawlessly. Glad you got one, excellent b-day present!

I have a green 3930 as well and agree that it runs great, or, in my case, did run great until something shorted out and started smoking!  Now it won't go at all, of course!

I'm sure it won't be too hard to fix, but I haven't yet had a chance to tear it apart.  Any advice from other owners on getting to the wiring in this loco?  Have any of you disassembled one? Does it come apart like the originals?

Thanks!

Rob,

have not had occasion to take mine apart.

There does seem to be a small printed circuit board up in there, which I assume is similar to a Williams reversing board.  If that's what smoked rather than the motor itself, should not be difficult to swap it out.  Let us know what you find.

I have them.
Thanks

Just a reminder to be careful, the MTH cars are John Deere green, the T Reproductions Dorfan engine is darker, an entirely different color green and they do not match.

How right you are Pappy. We only took one long vacation every other year and NEVER owned a new car after the first kid was born. Since they are out  on their own, due to health reasons, I do not travel much, but could if I wanted and we both have had a couple of new cars.
