Received a survey today by email from John Hoover on Dorfan Boxcar concept cars

We need your advice!

As tinplate collectors, we need your help with something. We know many of you are just interested in British tinplate trains, so if this doesn't apply to you but you know someone who may have an opinion, we appreciate if you could forward this as well.

As you know, Darstaed is considering recreating the beautiful Dorfan designs in O Gauge. As you can probably guess, it is an expensive process making a new line of tinplate, what with the tooling and dies needed, so naturally we would like to know if there is even enough interest to make this venture worthwhile.

So, if you would, please let us know the answers to the following questions:

1. Would you yourself be interested in the Dorfan line?

2. Do you know anyone collecting American tinplate who might be interested in the line?

3. Based on the images attached, rank the top six designs that you think are best

4. If you do like the Dorfan concept, would you prefer the roofs to be that same color as the bodies, or would you like to see a standard color like brown, black, or grey?

5. Dorfan made metal trimmings in brass and black. If you had to pick one, which would you prefer?

Thank you in advance for your response, we really appreciate your input!

3.   Boxcars, tank cars and stock cars, but still think a loco would be super.

4.   I think a different roof color would be good, a contrasting color like a darker green, blue etc.

5.   Brass.

Please count me in with Steve on this one. Thanks1

1. Yes, but not O gauge versions of Dorfan wide gauge. Do it right. Make it wide gauge.

2. Yes. Since Dorfan is so difficult (impossible) to find, there is appeal even to purists that don't like reproductions (like me).

3. Freights and Passenger cars. An engine is needed (3930). In for a dime, in for a dollar. Do it right or stay home. Dorfan pulled by Lionel? Makes no sense. Dorfan couplers with nothing to pull them, again, makes no sense.

4. Contrasting Colors

5. Brass

Just do it right and things will sell. Dorfan with Lionel trucks and couplers, well, what is it, Liofan or Dorfnel? Compromising this would alienate as many people as it would draw. Anyone wanting Dorfan is looking for something eclectic and will pay for it, so why not just do it the way it's supposed to be? Someone wanting Dorfan will buy the whole thing, cars and engine.
