Happy Memorial Day to all!

Owing to very busy schedules this past week, George Lasley and I have not had time to focus on the Duckunder Terminal Railway very much until the end of the week.  With the George Lasley line crew finally in town, however, power and communication connections have finally been made.  You will note in the attached photos that the line crew jostled a few wee people, too, who need to be glued back into their correct positions.

Note the addition of luggage to the station shed where Dad and brother have come to see Sis off to her new job in the big city of Norfolk.  She has her luggage, including her hatbox, ready for the big move as they wait for the local to be flagged down.

We will start the last two scenes on the new Duckunder within a few weeks.  Meantime, hope you enjoy the photos, and thanks for looking.

Best,

Thanks again to everyone for your kind remarks.

Forrest asked when the entire layout will be completed.  I don't know for sure, but am guessing sometime late this year.

the problem with finishing a layout is, then what?

As for OGR doing an article, they are always welcome back.  Regardless, I will keep posting photos here from time to time.

Here below are two overhead photos that give some idea of how the scenes are completely isolated and separated from one another so that only one scene is visible at a time.  Even so, these photos leave out at least 6 major scenes that are out of frame.

For those who are interested, the passenger shelter is modeled after one at Waverly, Va.  I found it in a photo in the Barringer Archives.  It is all styrene sheet and strip.

Yes, the Slocombe and Grainger store is a tribute to Are You Being Served, a favorite of mine.

Clyde Klinker is individual boards for the base and body with JTT roofing sheet.  The chutes are built up from styrene.

I had fun with the fall colors, they make a nice change from green and gives a new challenge in painting the backdrop.

Most of the passenger trains will have to make a swithback move to get to the platform.  Just makes the life of the crew more interesting.

The poles are Weaver with transformers from Keil Line and Selly.

The next scene will also be fall colors with two mines.  Stay tuned.

Will's reply just posted as I hit the send key.  When you are inside the layout you cannot see any other scene.  From the outside most of the scenes are isolated.

We built the layout higher so that most of it is close to eye level.  The main reason though was to save the knees when ducking under.  The goal was to keep the knees off the floor.  You have to bend over but not crawl.

Since the scenes are isolated and control is walkaround most of the turnouts are hand throws.  Machines are only used where you can't get to the turnout.

The Prosperity scene is on the left in the pictures.  Old King Coal I and II and Duckunder number II (number one was on the old layout)  are in the right hand part of the picture.  Roanoke is further to the left and backs up to Prosperity.
