To add to Vernon's question. What type of transformer are you using? Certain transformers do not work well with MTH.

I'm using an 80 watt Lionel transformer - very basic.  The model is Rail king 30-1133-1 Comodore Vanderbilt Steam Engine, w/ Protosounds

So hear that hum in the video when the main motor is either in forward or reverse? Yes, that hum means the electronics are working and sending power- and the motor is jammed and cannot turn.

This is why I linked the Zinc Pest topic because it's possible and a semi- known problem this model could have and thus why the wheels are mechanically jammed.

Highly suggest you remove the engine shell, try to spin the motor flywheel by hand, and do further mechanical inspection.

The boiler shell removes easily with just a few screws.

Looks like 4 easy screws with the engine upside down.

Highly suggest you check mechanically, take the shell off, try to find any and all sources of binding. MTH grease in my experience, was never so bad it jams gear sets with age. Even the oldest grease seemed to still be good in every MTH I have touched in the last 4 years. That said, these Hudson arrangement RK chassis, I have seen a few early PS1 examples with zinc pest and distortion jamming the wheels.

It could be something else, so again, don't go off and buy the drive block until sure that is the problem.
