MRC made a sound unit that made all kinds of sounds. There are a few farm sounds among others. It was discontinued, but you can still find them for fairly cheap. I have the loco sounds version and the sounds are good. The only con is the low volume. There is no line out, so getting it louder would be a challenge.

It is called, AA552 city and country sound station.

Radio Shack used to have a module that you could record yourself.  I'm working on one, but I haven't brought it out yet.

For a low volume solution, you can look at bigDAWGS Greeting Card Modules, you can record anything you like.  I used several of these with a DC power source, but they're not all that loud.  As long as it's not real noisy, they work pretty well.  A good baffle on the speaker helps the volume a bunch.

A google search for "farm sounds" results in several useful links, such as this one.

Do a search on eBay for "record & playback module" and many will come up for around $3. Note some record & playback for 10 seconds, others for 20.

Play (from link above) whichever sounds you want, record them with the module(s), and then play them back.

That is what I did for the sound of my home made (video included) Jugband concert hall.

I haven't tried this, but the first thing that leapt to mind would be to get a low-cost, low-capability iPod on eBay, load it with sound files you download from the Internet, and just put it on shuffle.  You could play it back through small speakers hidden in a barn.  The iPod itself could be hidden with it, or just attached to your control panel somewhere so you could easily activate it.

This is a variant of Alex's (INGENIERO NO 1) suggestion above, but it's a bit lower tech.

ITT. Com has all kinds of sound blocks. And you can buy the speakers as well.  I have the Saw Mill sounds and the Helicopter one as well!

I was looking at those. They seem pretty good. Two questions - how's the sound quality & can you power the board off AC?0

Yes, the Quality is very good & Yes, I run them off of one of my Accessory Transformers!
