Favorite Engine????

I'm a sucker for early diesel switchers, especially some of the "high hood" models like the Raymond Loewy designed Fairbanks-Morse H10. They were done up in some really great liveries. Underappreciated.

 

Also old streetcars and related utility cars.

 

The Big Boys are cool and all with all that smoke and articulation, but I'd rather have a fleet of the little guys.  

Any EMD F unit.

My favorites are F3's and F7's. The railroads really had some nice paint schemes and the F units really showed them off.

Modern diesels, not sure I can pick a favorite there? However, I have an MTH RK Scale Interstate Alco RS-3 that I am becoming quite fond of, it is gaining ground on the modern ones. It's not real detailed and the smoke unit is a bit lacking (only has one element, not two as most MTH engines), but it has good sound and runs very well and the paint scheme is really nice. If they make a Premier or Legacy version I will definitely be looking into upgrading.

Toss up for the VL Bigboy and the VL coal fired Challenger.  Love em both and side by side like the Ol Milwaukee commercial, "It doesn't get any better then this".

I may be stirring the pot on this one but it is a tossup between my Visionline Big Boy and my Daylight Cab Forward!

I have vl bigboy Hudson challenger cp rail and ge evo and my favorite is my diecast Union pacific es44 . If I had my Santa fe 2-10-10-2 still it  be my favorite .

My favorite is the EMD SD70ACE. It is a beautiful engine

My favorite engine is this Amtrak F40PH

     When my three children were young we took a lot of trips from Dearborn, MI to Chicago and this was the engine. We also did trips to Grandmas house, on the Amtrak to Grand Junction, Colorado. Not a F40PH. Then rented a car for the rest of the ride to Ouray. We did this for about sixteen years.

      We always went by coach, one night sleeping in our seats.

This is a K-Line with Lionel Cab #1. Still runs great.

Post War steam my 736 hands down 

Diesel my 2359 B&M GP-9

Modern would have to me my PA1 & PB1 

In diesels, it's the GE AC6000CW. 

In steam, it's a toss up between the SP 4449, N&W 611, and NKP 765.

Of my models, it my MTH P&LE GP7.

Tie between UP 844 and NKP 765

My favorite is the H-9 2-8-0 Consolidation. I'm also a big fan of the Western Maryland's I2 Decapod and J1 Potomac's - just waiting for them to be made in O scale! 

Wow, great question, but tough to choose.  In steam, the new legacy bekshire.  In desiel, Alco PA's, especially  Erie Lackawanna.

I love watching the steamers, but my favorite will always be the Santa Fe F3 AB

While I have a real affinity for SP 4449, it's gotta be this:

I would have to say the H-24-66 FM Trainmaster.

C&O Allegheny - I have the MTH Premier version but I've seen brass ones that knocked my socks off.

This would be my NEW favorite but is always subject to change.

1937 dodge, that engine is a beauty as well.  Love the matching passenger cars!  Heven never seen that paint scheme either but the wheels on the engine look great!

 

ES44AC, me and you are in 100% agreement.  I love the AC6000's, i have 2 (1 UP and 1 CSX), and I also LOOOVE the N&W 611 J Class.  the SP 4449 is still my fave, but the J class is way up there too.

My favorite Engine is My Chessie Steam Special. There's a long story behind it. Back in the early 2000's when I started with o scale. I didn't have much money. I seen it on e-bay and loved it but there was no way I could afford it. times got tough and trains got boxed up and put in storage. fast forward 14 years out of the boxes came all the trains. and on to e-bay I went happened to find it again and bought it with all the passenger cars to go along with it. it took 14 years but I now have it. down side to the story it sits on a shelf. since I am all tmcc and dcs.  

I think this one, but then again, I love them all!

   My most favorite engine is the 263E Tin Plate in the gun metal Gray, and nothing beats the original Lionel Gun Metal Gray color.  In the picture below it's the Steam Engine & Tender on the left.

I thought about this and can honestly say, including prototypes and  models, I like them all some more than others. The list would be so long that it would be meaningless.

Williams BL2 that I painted in B&O passenger paint scheme.  I know that the B&O never had any, but come on, its a toy train.  Unfortunately, I sold it and have kicked myself ever since.  However, I am in the process in repainting another one.

I tend to favor the small boys--2-8-0s and 4-6-0s these days. For one reason I now have a small layout and it makes no sense to run a ABA Mu of pretty Alco PAs that are nearly longer than their consist.

 

 

 

 

 

Back when I was part of the Penn State Railroad club I test ran a friends Premier SD80MAC during an open house and fell in love not only with the model but with the real one as well. This is the reason why I am stoked about finally being able to getting one of my own.

 

  Here it is next to my Railking SD70ACe (note the size difference)

But for now I have to say my 2 favorite engines on the layout are the SD40E and the Dash 8W.

 

 

 

I gotta go with MTH's Pennsylvania J1A, this is one beast of a engine and with the quill able whistle nothing beats it to date I'm my collection.

Subway Lover, I love the SD70ACE's as well.  The MAC is HUUUGE!  I love the NS rail line as well.  I had a TMCC SD70ACE but sold it.  it ran so smoooooooth!

 

Spence, Ive been on the fence about the Cab Forward.  ive seen a few in youtube videos and I like them but I have a few steamers already.  I do like how they look from the front though, very cool!!
