If the headlight is powered directly from the can motor, when the voltage exceeds 3V by much on the motor, the LED would doubtless die a quick death.  That being said, I suspect you have a series resistor, so it would be useful to know exactly what you have wired.  You would try a smaller cap, say a 47uf 25V one, after any dropping resistor.  You could also try it across the motor, but I'm not sure how the reverse board would react to capacity across the motor, never tried it.
