Well forum friends I am away from home on vacation and away from my collection, so I have to peruse my photo archives for the right pictures.  This is from a couple of years ago so if you have seen it I apologize.  It is an American Flyer, (Chicago Flyer) type x from 1932.  This was a wonderful era for Chicago flyer and you can see that by the amount of add on detail for piping and handrails. Note the handrails on the tender even.   She is all diecast and quite a "heavy hauler"  While not the "top of the line" in her day, she was clearly a premium offering from Flyer at the time.

Happy Front End Friday everyone! I've been away from my Train Room while enjoying a vacation to Maine, but as with all my trips, I always take a detour (and plenty of photos!) whenever railroad themed stuff pops up. First of all, from this afternoon's trip to the Cole Land Transportation Museum, here's two views of their little rail speeder.

Here is also the MEC BL2 that forms the centerpiece of their railroad collection. The Cole is well worth a visit if you're in the northern Maine area-- this is my second trip there and I saw lots of things that I didn't even notice on my first trip (like their fantastic collection of US Army uniforms and WW2 displays).

While relaxing by Moosehead Lake in beautiful Greenville Maine, I was pleasantly surprised by a passing CPKC freight train on the Greenville trestle behind the park. Look at the 0:21 mark in this Youtube video to see exactly when the "front end" breaks the tree line.

Here's my FeF for the day, it's a switcher faceoff, with some early evening sun on the blinds. The guys on the left are arguing about which one is the prettiest, SP SW8 or SF SW1200! IMO its the Santa Fe hands down! LoL I grew up with SP near my Hood, and man did they have some (how do I put this delicately) bland paint schemes?!

Happy Friday to you all, and have a great weekend!

IMG_9574Happy Front End Friday to you all! I just found this older video from a few years ago, before we had done a lot of scenery on the layout.  I had been testing our wye. We made an extension to make the wye. It rolls and hinges sidewards when needed to be out of the way. So here’s the “front end” of my favorite SP “mallee” testing the wiring and track work of the wye.

Santa Fe definitely wins that beauty contest, Scott. As much as I love the warbonnet scheme, to a certain extent, I think the blue and yellow pops more (oh the heresy!!!). It may be weird, but the traditional warbonnet looks amazing on the F’s and PA’s with the rounded noses, but with the more angular designs, it just doesn’t work for me. And, in defense of your beloved SP, if you think that is bland, I’ve got some PRR engines to sell you (NOT GG1’s)
