Genesis Lighting Question

Do you mean these red lights?...

Those are the ones. I'd like to know when they would be turned on. When in reverse? When stopped?? Any ideas?

They're red marker lights. If the engine was on the rear of the train, they'd be lit as rear end markers. Or other purpose where markers would be lit. 

They're not on while moving forward. 

I'd probably just stick red LEDs in there and either wire them to the reverse light so they come on in reverse only, or not wire them at all. 

The white lights below the markers are the ditch lights. 

I have seen them on when stopped occupying a main line for a prolonged period of time, also after an emergency brake application, when a locomotive is being used in a push/pull fashion such as in commuter operations.  Even when parked in a yard.

Thanks guys. I think I will wire them in with the reverse lights. I did find a few videos which show the "ditch lights" are also used like warning lights oscillating left and right.

We'll have to come up with a little circuit to do that on command.

Yes, the ditch lights flash like that when the horn is activated.
