I want to build a model bridge, about 40-50 inch long span.
It has to be functional for O gauge trains.
I think this will be a fun project to teach my daughter about engineering.
Anybody tried something like this?

When my daughter was in Jr. High School we built a truss bridge for "Science Olympiad" out of balsa and Elmers white glue. There were rules re: construction and size. Then she took it to Brown University where she did a weight stress test till it broke. The look on her face at break point was great. And the project was a wonderful father-daughter experience. Make the memories.

Richard, very nice work. This will be very impressive on your layout.
Lots of great bridges guys! Here are a few pictures of bridges on my layout that I have built...

This one is from Bridgeboss but I modified and added to it certain details....
The silver MTH bridge was modified as a swing bridge to allow boat traffic to pass..
The bridge in the background is made up of 3 Lionel bridges that have been modified and mounted on scratch built "concrete" supports.
Here is another MTH bridge converted into a highway bridge....
This is a TW Design viaduct that has been incorporated into a curve on the layout..
The top bridge is a kitbash of an Atlas bridge and 2 Ross bridges. Spans 58" total.
The lower one is a custom built stainless steel bridge that spans 59" from Stainless Unlimited.
This is a viaduct I am working on, still struggling with the paint and weathering. Cast in sections in plaster , then carved to simulate blocks. Three forms, acrh, middle piers and end piers were needed. Made for 072 track. Interesting part of the forms made for the arches was the inside radius is smaller, of course on the plan view, but the arch radius itself is smaller as the piers are closer together on the inside radius of the viaduct.
