In older TIU I cannot do the latest updates

I have 2 TUI's older then that and I upgraded them without issue.

The first one up graded with no issues. I used the same cords and PC on the first generation TIU and that was the message I got.

Check that the TIU's serial port has all of its pins straight, unbent and not touching each other, and that the 1/8"stereo jumper cable is plugged in all the way in both ports.

Rev. G TIUs upgrade to DCS 4.30 just as easily as newer models.

Did you try your son's right before trying yours?  If yes, be sure to shut down and restart the TIU so you can start the on-screen steps from step 1.  If not, are you sure TIU has power and computer is accessing the proper comm port?

I also have two original issue Rev G's and had no problems.

My sons was updated before York. I can update my remote using my son's TIU however I cannot update anything on my TIU.

It's a problem with the TIU hardware or, possibly, what's on the TIU. You could try a TIU reset before upgrading.

Is your computer finding the tiu?  Have you turnef everything off, started the computer ptogram andselected the upgrade function, and then followed the on-screen instructions in precisely the order stated

Check in device manager for the COM port assignment.  In the DCS Loader click on "Options" and select the actual COM port number where your TIU is connected rather than "auto."  This will restrict the program to looking for the TIU only on the port where it actually exists.  The loader program really isn't patient enough when it scans the ports on auto.

I have tried a TIU reset-still doesn't work.

I tried the Com Port assignment it doesn't work either.

I am stuck on version 4.1. Except now I have to reload my switches into the TIU. I am open to any suggestions.

Try a different computer for the load. 

Can you load sound files with that TIU?  Were you ever able to load sound files with that TIU?

I have loaded quite a few sound in files with that TIU. Uploaded and downloaded from engines.  This is the first time I have had an issue doing an update. It has version 4.1 in it now and it is an original first generation TIU. Tony Lash sent me a gift certificate for Christmas right before they first came out, to be redeemed when the units arrived in Columbia, MD.  (Thanks again Tony). There are no fuses in it like there are in the second plus generations.

If you can load a sound file, it's a mystery why you can't do the update, as you are obviously talking to the unit.

GRJ, it's not clear whether his computer can find the proper comm port today, or whether he has used device manager to locate the comm port where the TIU is.

That's why I qualified my statement.  If you can load a sound file, you can find the TIU.

You mean if you can load a sound file NOW, you're finding the TIU---or at least should be.  But things do happen and you must power down the TIU between attempts, and not power on the TIU until the serial cable and the jumper stereo cable are both in place.

Since I updated to the new loader I cannot get any communication between the PC and the old TIU. I dug out my old serial cord along with my old laptops and I am going to see if they will communicate with the older loader versions. If the TIU will not communicate with the older PC's and the older versions then I will know that the it is a failure of my serial port connection within the TIU. If they do communicate then I can assume there is an issue my original TIU and the new loader version. My PC and the new version works fine upgrading my son's TIU so my PC should not be the issue.

Scott, my TIUs are original issue units.  I have had no issues using the latest loader version.  It's been awhile since I've had a laptop with a serial port, so I have a USB>serial converter cable.

I seem to recall that old loader versions will not work with 4.1 software.

I blew up the message in the picture on your first post, so now I see the problem.  As recommended above, use Windows device manager and determine on what comm port the TIU is.  The TIU must be turned on for this.  When you determine the comm port, turn off the TIU and then start the loader program, click on options, and try to enter that port.  Use a serial cable that has worked in the past, just in case you have one that's gone bad.

The same cord and pc work fine on the new TIU. Setting it to the right port is not making a difference (yes I went into device manager).

I have one very old TIU where the case impedes the serial plug going into the socket fully.  It has to be jiggled to slip past the case.  Appears to be in but isn't.
