I have been upgrading my Engine fleet with Kadees for the last couple of months.
Mario AKA CentralFan1976 ( https://www.shapeways.com/shops/gandyman ) sells Kadee mounts on Shapeways for Atlas/MTH/Lionel products.
The purpose of this thread and others, is to show how adapt his products for other uses. The first one is the install of Kadees on the MTH Premier SD45 See below and was last updated in Oct.

this is pretty much a straight forward install. Since Mario doesn't make on for the Atlas SD40 I started out doing a test fit using Mario's Atlas GP35 Kadee mounts( Open). When I discovered they would work, I went ahead and used styrene strips to fill in the gap on the mounts. A little light sanding of the sides and face then off to paint.
Install into the pilot was pretty straight forward. Used epoxy to set in place and after 3hrs dilled out the hole for screw into the pilot then screwed in place. The next thing was to sand down the coupler mount on the truck assembly to make room for the Kaddee and the mount. For the Kadde coupler I used a pair of 743s short shank which really is your only option as there is not a whole lot of room to work with. If your going to fix the pilots you will need to trim of more of the coupler mount on the truck Assembly
