They're a very small humidifier, so unless it's already cold and damp in the trainroom, it's unlikely to have much of an effect.  I ran one for a few hours on a little 3oz container of water.  It was still "smoking" when I came back, but the water level was down to about 1/3.  I figure less than an ounce an hour of output, and I have two dehumidifiers running that should handle that.

Looks like all of Lionel's upcoming Ready-to-Play steam sets will have this water vapor effect on the smoke stacks.  "Water vapor smoke effect with flickering LED in smoke stack."  The video on the Pennsylvania Flyer product page shows it pulsing once per rev.  Pretty cool new feature and without changing the price point.  I suppose this was the obvious first choice since they're 99% plastic, including the track.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that it eventually gets scaled down for the Lionchief line though.

Afterthought: Looks like the cost might have come from the exclusion of the remote.  If you run these things with the Lionchief app, do they just have plain old Lionchief boards in them?  Can the Base 3 control it??

It'll be interesting to see how this works out.  I bought a few of these and fooled around with them.  They look ideal for buildings, you can put a significant water tank inside the building and it'll run for hours without attention.  It's also not likely to get damaged by running out of "fluid".

As for the BASE3, it's an interesting question.  I would think if they run with the LC application that they'd run with the BASE3, it's supposed to be the consolidation of command operation across all the control types.  I'm sure someone like @Dave Olson could answer this question better than anyone here.
