The ongoing duplication was not intentional but created when Charlie posted our video.  If I'd started this whole thing with a better title none of this confusion would have occurred.  I'll be more careful in the future.  I want to take the time now to thank Charlie for really getting this out there.  My original was just kind of languishing out there.

The following is a cut & paste from the other thread.

The reaction to our video is kind of overwhelming.  Please forgive me for not replying to each of you separately.  It makes me happy to see everyone likes the work that's been done on the layout, so far.

It's located near the Fresno Airport (Central California).  We call it a club but there are only 3 remaining members.  Two died and two quit.  It is 35' X 85' with minimum 8' radius on the main lines.  We're not going to have a lot of structures.  We feel most layouts are just too cluttered which kind of takes away from the overall effect.

The rock work was/is done using Bragdon Enterprises techniques and material.  Most is very lightweight foam. Here's a link to their website; http://www.bragdonent.com/index.htm  Joel & Jenny actually spent many hours on the layout which probably explains why it looks as good as it does.  They also took the time to instruct us in using their techniques so we could continue once they left.

We've opened it to the public twice (both times following O Scale West) but for the most part we've kept it's location & hours of operation semi-secret.  Truth is, if someone wants to see it all they have to do is contact one of us and we'll set something up.  Oh yeah, kind of hard to do without contact info, huh?  Actually, I think my contact info is available through this website.  If asked, I try to oblige.

The landscaping is not protected from being touched but we expect visitors to have enough common sense to not touch it.  If you do you'll be escorted out and not allowed back.  As a matter of fact, we had one guy come in who immediately started picking up rolling stock for closer examination.  He hasn't been seen since.

Again, thanks for the kind words,

Jay

Erik,
Thanks!  Truth is, we're really not looking for more exposure.  Just wanted to share.

I started posting Youtube videos of our layout some 5 years ago never looked back since. It doubled our website traffic and really helped out our exposure!

We don't have guard railing, catch cans, netting or anything else to protect our locos & rolling stock.  We spent a lot of time & money to get the bench & track work right so we wouldn't have any derailments.  Does this mean we never have any?  No, we've had a few but none on the main lines for over 5 years.  The few we've had were mostly in the yards or at the lower levels where the train can't go too far.  Until a loco can prove itself to be reliable it's not used to pull large trains on the main.  Typically, if a loco has a problem we'll trouble shoot it, find the issue, and fix it.

Having said that, I'll probably have a huge derailment tonight and destroy multiple thousands of dollars worth of models.

Your track work is top notch, as can be seen throughout the video. Plainly the result of good planning and execution.

At our club we had the need to install the plexi screens in some places. During our holiday open houses it gets pretty busy and it's inexpensive insurance against the loss of expensive equipment and the time invested in it.

Chris,
I understand completely.  Another thing I forgot to mention.  We don't run our trains real fast.  For the most part, we believe, just because an engine can run a scale hundred miles an hour doesn't mean it should.  To us it just looks silly and toy like to run the trains fast.
