I am trying to update may Lionel Base and Cab-2

I used the serial port method and no luck

It shows the base is connected but reads an error message (No response from base)

So I figured I would get a LCS wifi module.

Of course no luck finding a LCS 6-81499 Cable.

My base has the version 1.2

I know ist been awhile since i used it.

I am building a large layout which i have the bench done a most of the track down.

Any help?

The fundamental problem- you are on base firmware version 1.2, BUT, 1.2 cannot write an upgrade module.

It's not a connectivity problem- you are too low of a version for self update to write your own modules using that base.

You need version 1.3 or higher on your base to write modules. So you need a 1.3 or higher pre-written base memory module someone can loan you to "jumpstart" you.

It shows the base is connected but reads an error message (No response from base)- Again, you got this error message not because your serial cable connection was not working- you got it because your base is on too early of a firmware revision to be able to write modules. You have to be on version 1.3 or higher base firmware for that procedure to work.

So I figured I would get a LCS wifi module.- Wouldn't solve the problem either, because it would still want a higher firmware revision bare minimum on the base to even connect- let alone write a module for higher updates or updating the CAB2 remote.

Of course no luck finding a LCS 6-81499 Cable.

Again, you need to take your memory module to someone with a base on a higher firmware revision and let them write you an upgrade module or loan you a set of memory modules already with a higher version update.

You can upgrade with a memory module from 1.2 all the way to the latest, it's not that problem, it's just again, 1.2 base version is so old, it was before they made the option to write further update modules. You just need a jump start to get past this step.

EDIT:

Further, you are asking for a cable to connect the WIFI module, but again, even that cable would not solve your immediate problem. The WIFI module cannot directly update base firmware- that's not how they made the system, it just provides that serial connection to the base. So again, unless your base was at least 1.3, and even then I think the WIFI module wants a minimum base firmware version that may be even higher, you'd still need a pre-written memory module from someone with higher base firmware to get you over this hurdle.

If you have the original blue modules that came with the #990 Command System, you can convert those to writable modules.  After you have a writable module (or two), you can carry or mail them to anyone with a Legacy system to write the current version software to them.

Free Black or Orange Modules for Legacy

If the conversion is beyond your capabilities, you can send the modules to me and I'll convert them and put the latest version of the base and CAB2 software on them.  Send me a PM if you want to go that way.

Finding the LCS 6-81499 Cable, OTOH, it going to be a bit more difficult, I don't see them anywhere.  It's possible to make one, but that's certainly more work!
