As Moonman has stated above, the Legacy PowerMaster will work with a CAB-1, provided that you are also using a command base.

The original PowerMaster came out before TMCC was introduced, and so could talk directly to the CAB-1 remote. It did not communicate with the base, because there were no bases then.

The new Legacy PowerMaster talks to the base via the track signal, and will work with any TMCC or Legacy setup provided that you have a base unit connected.

Isn't that what Steve said?  Actually, his answer is more correct than yours are.  The CAB-1 is single device.  It cannot address a Legacy PM by itself.  Not like it can with the old TMCC PM.

Steve went on to state that you can connect the TMCC Command base to make it work.

The original poster asked about a CAB-1 control.  Steve nailed it.  G

Nicole, The CAB-1 talked to the PM, not the other way around.  PM only receives information.  No 2 way communication.  G

Well, not really. He assumed a Legacy base with a trainmaster base in the configuration. That was confusing if you don't know about that stuff. Only one base is needed and the OP was asking about the Cab-1.

No matter, it's clear now that Cab-1(or 2) direct control is not available for the new Legacy Powermaster

Jim, the answer is no.  The original PowerMaster receives it's commands directly from the CAB1 at 27mhz.  The ONLY way to use the original PM with the Legacy IMO is to use the Legacy PowerMaster Bridge.  However, that precludes the use of the BASE1, as both of them use 27mhz, and the PM Bridge conflicts with the CAB1 communication to the BASE1.

You get to pick, either using the BASE1 connected to the Legacy, or the PM Bridge to use the old PowerMasters.

OK. I should have said 'listens', rather than 'talks', but I was trying to keep it simple.

Need to read it again.  Nicole gets it.  I guess my original point is that Steve answered correctly.  Moonman said he was wrong and gave the same answer in a different way.  Than Nicole jumped in.

The good news is Jim gets it.  So all is well.  G

Well accurate is better than simple.  So what was wrong with Steve's original answer?  G

Nothing really. I was just trying to be helpful and offer a little more information.
