Legacy Remote

There has been a rash of issues with the CAB2 lately.  Give Lionel a call.  Even if your out of warranty they most likely will fix it free of charge.  I just sent mine off to them the other day.  Keypad went bad, screen went bad, and the channel select button on the bottom went bad so I couldn't upgrade to 1.51.  

In a near collision event, the operator can probably depress the red halt button with pretty good force.  This may have mashed the switch or flexed the board and started the problem.  Try pulling out the batteries for a while and cycle the halt button serveral times just in case it is partially stuck or hung up.

Well, I pulled out the batteries, depressed the "red" button... still no change.  It seems the number 2, and all numbers south (down) do not work... including smoke off and any of the center row down.  So I best get ready to send it in to Lionel.  They probably will want the base unit too?

I send in a charging base that was about three years old, they fixed it with no complaints.  I think, at least for now, they're extending the warranty on the Legacy command set.  Now, if they'd do the same thing with Legacy locomotives...

I know this is an oldish thread, but I just had a very similar issue with my Cab-2.  I had an engine assigned #41 and it's dummy as #42.  One day the remote just wouldn't let me push the 1 or 2 buttons after I hit the 4.  Tried resetting with the button as well as the upgrade modules, but no luck.  Sent it back to Lionel and they sent me a used, but repaired replacement remote at the cost of shipping it to their Ohio repair center.

Did you try changing out the batteries? I had a similar situation where my trains came on but the sounds would not. Finally I noticed the low battery icon was on. Fresh batteries and everything was fine again. Good luck. David56
