Let's see Beer Rolling Stock Cars

A TCA Desert Division classic:

And for the 50th Anniversary of Desert Division, this more modern offering.  The beer can came from a house renovation.  A contractor found this in the open cells of concrete block on a remodel of a 1947 home.  Just goes to show, not much has changed in the last 75 years. 

There are still a few of these left for sale in two numbers, 101971 for the year DD was founded and 102021 for the 50th anniversary.

I am returning to this hobby (for the past year) after a 30+ year hiatus and the beer refers from ALL the o gauge manufacturers are making me thirsty! I love the look and detail and variety I'm seeing out there. I'm jealous. I've got dozens of "Lionel 9800's" rolling stock, but nothing like those

Sigh... Maybe someday I'll have a wood-sided-reefer train...

Some nice looking cars out there check ebay at time you can find a Lionel for a good price. Mark

I live in Pittsburgh and have neighbors that worked at Pgh brewery.  MTH years ago came out with a BUNCH of cars showing different brews that pittsburgh brewery made.  I bought every car that MTH made!

My prize was a cream colored train (engine and 6 cars) that could only be bought at the brewery (at first).

Absolutely.  IC Lite is now their big seller.  They brew specialty beers too.

Walt I guess the newest one renewed interest in the older ones.  When I first saw the title of the newest one I thought it was the one Arnold had started.  I forgot all about this thread until someone posted the link in the newest version.

As part of my collection, the Lionel MPC phase consists of the beer cars offered in the 70s. And as you will see below them are the candy cars from the same era.

it had to be a Milwaukee Road SD18 to head up the beer cars.

BRich, I too have collected the MPC beer reefers and the factory weathered group of reefers which included a green Budweiser reefer.

Couple of Lionel special issue beer cars.

Who makes the Sommerzeit car?

I’m looking for the Rolling Rock Switcher. I understand that it was mostly sold to employees. I do have a number of the rolling rock cars but so far the switcher has eluded me.

Yes, when I started, I wanted to just get the modern reefer versions. I do believe the green Bud car was a wood side car. Lionel also did a few Standard O reefers, but they were big when put alongside the other reefers.

@breezinup those are really nice.  Colors pop and very interesting graphics.

These four Beer reefers comprise my entire beer rolling stock.  Up front as it should be is the  pride of the OGR forum the famous NATTY BOH reefer, followed by the Western Division’s APACHE reefer and then the BALLANTINE and MILLER HIGH LIFE reefers.  The first three were manufactured by ATLAS while the last was made by MTH.

These aren't from PGH brewery like all of the others that I've shown, but they certainly fit this topic!

While I was a student at the Philadelphia Musical Academy in the mid 1970's, our "school cafeteria", aka McGlinchy's Bar, sold Rolling Rock 12-ounce drafts for $.25 cents each. It was a real nice beer at a price that I could afford on a self-supporting adult student's budget.
