I just read through this old (2013) thread "Lionel 18056 Hudson Overhaul - FINISHED"... the thread is closed.  https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...ionel-engines?page=2

I have the engine and the pt tender.  I would like to upgrade the engine.  I'm a little uncertain about the can motor as I didn't see make/model that were used in the conversion.  Certainly, adding better stepping and 4 chuff would be nice.  I haven't been able to find any other conversions out there but I imagine there may have been some advancements over the last seven or eight years.

Any thoughts on this or other 18056 conversion/upgrade experiences are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you’re going to do upgrades on Pulmor equipped locomotives. a can motor is a must, .....no cruise with AC motor. I’ve done a lot of Pittman swaps in these ............( especially the 18056 ) . You can do the Timko Motor swap, but that is a small motor with out a lot of oomph, ....these Hudsons respond very well to large Pittman motors, fan smoke, 4 chuffs. ERR Cruise Commander and still use the IR drawbar to run the PT tender.....the 18056 is commonly referred to as the modern 763. I’ve seen you comment on the 773 thread I’m doing, pretty much all of the above sans PT tender, so 773 & 763 are sisters, but the 763 just happens to have fancier clothes to wear. ......you may find some comment that the Timko motor swap is just fine for what they’re doing, and that’s fine, it is great for the DIY guy with minimal tools, however, you’ll have to keep the consists small, so any electronics packages are not overtaxed. ...all of this family of Hudsons are beasts with the large Pittman....
