While searching on ebay for a 2426W tender, I stumbled across this, and just felt that I had to share it with you guys. I kinda like it. What do you guys think?

Very interesting. a lot and I mean a lot of effort went into doing that it really is a nice looking engine. It's unique that's for sure. Wouldn't mind having it nice detailing.

I love the guys who think it's trashed. They produced these things out the wazoo, who cares if one was somebody's custom project. I personally think it's a great piece, thought it was actually lithographed in the first few seconds of viewing the listing. The new owner will be very happy with it while everyone else grumbles. Good on him.
There was a whole collection of fine Lionel that had been painted up like this one. They were at Cal Stweart a couple of years ago. You had to admire the effort and skill that went into painting the equipmnet. On the other hand, there was some very nice Lionel production that been modified this way, both locks and cars. It was interesting, but not to my taste.
Same seller is also selling a 2332 GG1 painted in the same way.

Over done for my taste too, but not unusual for that time period.
It does not appeal to me. Too much.
I actually like too. A fun item to see running around.

exactly....just like a custom car, you may not like the look, but you can admire the skill that went into it.
I Love the classic looks of the 726 engine. However, this one looks like it would go nice with a Ringling Brothers Circus theme set up.

I will be surprised if he gets the $360 ($345 plus $15 shipping) that he has as an opening price. But you never know.
How do you place a value on such an item?
As an aside, I am not an expert on evaluating 2332 GG-1's. The stripes and lettering on one side look fairly worn. If I had an unaltered one with lettering like that, I would not redo it, but I wouldn't rate the condition that high.
Not sure why someone would paint a fairly detailed postwar engine to look "tinplate".
HAve mixed feelings - I actually think it is attractive in a way but would agree with some that a piece that is so well detailed seems out of place with this type of paint. The GG1 however could be attractive this way...
What's next? a 1946 Lionel Berkshire in pink?

Each to his own, it's a toy train and Brewmam has a great idea, it would look real good pulling a circus consist! As long as the engine runs properly you get a custom engine and tender. For me however it's a might over priced, even with all the custom work.

That sums up my reaction to these atrocious-looking pieces. Why Faux Tinplate??

Marx sold several REAL lithographed steam engines, mostly before WWII.
Even olive drab for military trains!

I am certain there are people who like it, some folks have said so here. The question is how much someone is willing to pay.

The only way to run this on your layout is while wearing saddle shoes, spats, a pocket watch on a long chain, a green velvet vest, those little black elastic armbands around your biceps, a boutonniere, a monocle, and a silver/gray top hat.
Me? I'll stick with a cotton shirt, khakis, sneakers, and an all-black gosh-darned steam loco, thanks.
