Jeff Kane has it, #8813-CORD
How do I reach Jeff? Is he a vendor on the site?
Jeff's number is 585-229-2050
Most people use fishing line to restring the cranes. It is strong and durable, but it is stiff and does not work as well as what Lionel used originally. I have used Embeoidbry floss, DMC Pearl cotton Size 3, black thread. This is not as strong as fishing line but it is soft and works well on the pullies and blocks.
Thanks guys. I walked through Walmart looking in the sewing department and the closest I could find was the embroidery floss. It isn't working well for me as it tends to bind up if there isn't any weight on the magnet. There is a train show in town this weekend and I'll go see if they have anything (good excuse to go right?). If not, I'll give ttender a call.
cotton string at the hardware store, ive used that on cranes
You need to find old nylon multi-filiment black fishing line like used on 1950s open reel fishing reels. I still have a little on my old childhood fishing reel, about 30 lb and still good. You can not over age nylon line. Ebay may be a source or antique shops.

I use some black line they offer in Home & Garden
In the 1/50 model crane world guys love to used a braided fishing line called Musky Master made by Courltand to replace the line already fitted to some of the diecast cranes, they used to do two sizes,27lb line and 18lb line,I think the smaller would suit better, they're sold in 100yd or 1200yd spools,
Just recently on a diecast forum I'm on, a thread was started to see if Musky Master could be found, some emails were sent to Courtland explaining to them that there was a whole other market out there that used their line,Courtland replied saying they would seriously consider putting it back into production, in the mean time its become hard to track down but it is a great line, doesn't bind up on multi pulley/sheeve hook blocks, hangs very realistically with very little rigidity
