I just got this to go with my Mikado Southern 4501 and am blown away with the detailing.  Quite new to O Scale and slowly getting to know the different brands.  Got some MTH Premier Cabooses as well as some K-Line which are really nice but this particular Lionel model is even better.  Didn't really know what to expect as I got lucky and got it for $25 on eBay - no box but it's in great condition.  I also got some Lionel that are scale size but crude in terms of detail.  I know there are different price points but is there something in the model numbers that denotes a model as being more detailed, scale or deluxe.  This is my second Lionel car that also comes with rotating bearing caps which is really cool.  And for you with eagle eyes, it is missing one bearing cap.

Welcome...  this is typical of Lionel SCALE tooling freight cars and these cabooses have been around about 17years...

They are very collectible, and you will see them go for almost double original prices on online auctions.

There is also a few more types to look at with similar detailing...  the extended vision, UP CA4, northeastern, and the newest is the pennsy N5.

The easiest way to tell if a caboose is lionel scale tooling is look at the bodyside handrails.  These will be wires, not molded...

They look like this...

This is an example of the extended vision lionel scale caboose tooling.  See the curved yellow hand grips on the body side are formed and separately applied WIRE, and not molded in.

Then you can see the guy in the coupla window with his cup of coffee...  these are highly detailed and great cars.

Good luck in your collecting...
