Lionel Legacy system compatiblity with DCC?

Hi folks

very new to O gauge so pardon the basic question.

I would like to run a Lionel legacy system steam engine (EM-1) with a DCC system . I have nothing except normal AC transformers at this point for three rail operation but was looking to use DCC for the layout that is being built. Dont have any Lionel legacy controller either. Just the loco. Would be converting other locos to DCC with decoders and adding sound in some cases.

Suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks!

Only S gauge Legacy engines are DCC compatible.

Not true anymore. But there is only one 3 rail O locomotive that is DCC/Legacy, and that is the 4-4-0 brass hybrids.

But otherwise you can not run Legacy locomotives with DCC.
