I purchased Lionel 6-82293 Atlantic  Coast Line Lionchief Plus Diesels #32.  Run them with the remote.  With full track power they run fine until they cross a postwar 022 switch.  When running at a low speed, the engine stops and have to change it's position on the track for it to reengage.  When running at medium or higher you can hear it 'miss' when crossing the switch ... but it clears and goes on.   

I am a bit of a novice at this ..... any thoughts?

All trains are not all compatible with all turnouts, even within brands. They never really have been.  

Roller issues where both sides of one set end up off the center rail, traction tire issues as mentioned, bodies striking the turnout motor covers, etc.... well, it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Solutions range from new wheels& "rotated wheels",  to roller sets with a different spacing, to extra rollers being added. OR sometimes it is actually shorting too across hot/com rails. That is usually as simple as a small piece of electric tape, nail polish, etc  (yes, tape stays put on cleaned track)

I set a towl along a turnout, running the engine so slow that it needs help to move. When it hits a dead spot, I look high and low and I roll the loco up or over until I know where every roller and wheel sits...and there is the answer 98% of the time.

(unless a wire needs to be reattached)
