I would be one of the first in line to pre order a legacy Allegheny. Vision Line would be even better. I grew up looking at #1601 at Henry Ford Museum. And was a large influence on me beginning to like trains at an early age. I have been tempted by the original offering a few times but I try very hard to collect only Legacy locomotives as I don't enjoy the speed steps and lesser features of some TMCC locos.

I have a JLC Allegheny - its a great loco: very impressive.  A Vision version of it would be even more so.  I would think that eventually Lionel would re-issue an update of that JLC, too,  just like they have announced they are doing for the JLC Big Boy.  I'll sit that one out, too, because the JLC versions of both are good enough for me.

The thread title is very misleading.  I thought Lionel was introducing an Allegheny for the 2014 catalog.  Instead, it should be changed to "Will Lionel Make an Allegheny"

Anyways, I also have the JLC Allegheny and it is one of the most detailed engines Lionel has produced.  Since it is very popular another iteration in the form of (hopefully) a Vision Line shouldn't be too far away in the future in my opinion.  I bought close to 30 C&O all metal hoppers just to go with this engine.
