I recently purchased a MTH DCS system with WI-FI which I use the MTH app on my I -phone. I operate MTH engines with this system.  Z-4000 transformer. At times, the speed of the engines will go to maximum and I lose control of the app on my phone hence unable to stop the engine (s).  After I shut down my transfomer and reset everything; problem is solved until the next time.  Does not happen frequently. Has anyone encountered this situation?

Oh yeah!  This is one I "discovered” in the first day or two I had DCS WiFi.  😳

When you load a new engine into your tablet or smartphone; ALWAYS set a maximum speed for that engine.  If you’re running the Premium version WiFi; you can do that on the settings screen.

And if you have other folks run your trains from their smartphones;  make sure THEY set a maximum speed for whatever engine they are running too.  Doing it on one device doesn’t make it universal for all devices.

It is very easy with the app to hit the full speed arrow on the speedometer because it is directly next to the “+.”   So Curt’s advice s right on - set a lower max speed and that arrow will move accordingly and out away from the +.

I also made a thread about this. It’s like it somehow loses connection with the engine yet can somehow make it go to top speed. Really makes me angry considering it’s $100 for the unit and $25 for the premium app and yet MTH doesn’t fix that issue

It happens to me on my I pad or phone I hit something I didn’t mean to and go to a different page. I have set the max speed on all my engines for that reason so I don’t send one into orbit!

Its not a loss of connection.  It’s exactly what Bob notes in his response.  If you accidentally hit the white max speed arrow it will increase the speed to that setting.  Since the default maximum speed with the WiFi download is 120 scale miles per hour; that’s exactly the speed the engine will accelerate to.

And one thing I’ll add here about the WiFi app; you have an emergency stop capability by simply bumping your thumb or finger on the screen to the left of the speed dial and just above the reverse button.

When you download the app it defaults to the invisible emergency stop but; you can make the button visible by following the prompts when you click on “more” to the bottom right of your screen.  When this opens, click on advanced features then on system settings.  There is a slide button there that when turned off will prompt you to create a password to “un-hide” the emergency stop button on the main screen.

You are THE MAN Curt!!! I live and die w/ my DCS remote, on and next to me, simply for the e-stop function in case of emergency!! I was so surprised that MTH had missed that feature in the WIU/APP environment, which as you have so graciously pointed out, is NOT missing after all!

P.s., mine shows up just under the BELL Icon:
