I also want to thank people who have contributed to this thread - truly expert advice. My problem is that living in the UK I know of no-one who has the full DCS system - the problem is the different electricity supply, which makes the Remote Commander so attractive here as it can be run off my 20v supply to the track.

So if anyone knows of anyone in the UK with DCS so I can try a factory re-set ..... I'd be very interested!

Best wishes to all

David

As soon as I placed it on the track and hit the SU button on the remote it started up and that is it, no other functionality from the remote

That is not an issue with a wrong DCS ID#.

If the engine had been assigned a DCS ID# other than the one from the factory, the SU key would not have done anything at all. The engine has some other problem and, I expect, will not work properly with a full DCS set, either.

The other alternative is that both your DCSRC and tbe one at the store are both defective, which is less likely.

My DCSRC is not defective since it works with the original engine it came with.

Did they run the engine on the stores DCS system AFTER the reset was done?  If so, they assigned an address to it and therefore it is not truly reset.

Are you sure that reset was done fully and properly, or are you simply relying on what you were told was done?  Doing the reset is not difficult, but it does have to be done in a precise way to fully "take."  Might be worth having them do it again.

Bob,

Good point, the store owner's son did the reset but he was not sure if he then ran it

on their DCS system. My DCSRC still did not work withe engine when I got it home.

Well, this all may be a mute point since I just purchased the DCS system with the TIU.

I guess the first thing I should do is add the engine then do a factory reset prior

to running this new engine?

Thanks Barry also for your input. Any tips on the proper procedure for the reset?

I went through the same thing the first time I had an engine reset before I had the full DCS.  We reset it, but then it was on the layout and got added back into the DCS.

The second time we did it right and it worked.

I've tested a number of DCS engines by doing a factory reset to them with the full DCS, then running them with the DCS Remote Commander.  All have worked fine after a proper factory reset and immediately powering down and disconnecting the TIU.  Every one runs with the DCSRC until I add them to the DCS again.
