I have this Genesis item 20-2605-1 engine it powers up the minute track power is applied which means it misses seeing the watchdog signal.

now all other ps-2 engines do not power up when track power applied.

I have replaced the battery let it charge using the correct ps-2 battery charger for it for 24 hrs set engine on track and get same results with new battery!

it will not add to remote sitting on the track always says no engine found. I have tried a recover engine and says no engines recovered!

the only way to get it to add to remote is using jumper wires directly from tiu fixed 1 output with track wires disconnected.

then it will power on/off as it should so power it down turn power off to layout set engine on track under tiu 1 control rev L with 4.20 turn power on and wham it powers up not seeing watchdog signal. if I push start engine it does cycle again all works as it should bell horn and so on then i push shut down button powers of fine sounds stay on the required time all is fine.

power all layout power off wait 20 seconds power layout up and again the engine powers up again not being commanded to do so from remote.

so all you mth techs what is this engines problem? anything that I can try to pinpoint this engines issue??

thanks for any help on this

GGG,  I found a purple wire bare under plastic motor cover at front of engine all other wires fine. I believe they control front lighting as they go to a green molex connector.

I pulled a large molex connector on main PCB board and apparently that is the set of wires that allows the start up in conventional only as engine was silent and unpowered with it disconnected.

it will be the first long connector just behind the smoke unit with either 2-3 smaller molex connectors behind that.

so what does that connectors wires go to?

thanks for any help,

St Paul

GGG,  no spring connectors on this engine purple wire is okay put some tape over bare spot.

yes the connector I refer to is a 12 pin connector from left to right looking from front of engine where ditch lights are the wires are red-grey-2-bluesame pin-black-tan-white-yellow- blue 2 greens same pin-orange-2 brown same pin- last wire is tan

i attached a picture full size of the connector I am referring to hope it helps you relate to  my issue.

thanks St Paul

GGG. even with that bare wire insulated still not seeing the dcs signal but if I push startup on remote the sounds go lower where I had them and will work as a command engine after that.

it will also run conventional as well.  is there a specific circuit on the mother board that deals only with the watchdog signal?

There are a few inductors that can be damaged from over current.  When you say lower volume, can you get max vol out or does the engine sounds drop to about half after start up on their own?  If so, you have an issue that needs to be resolved and it is best to get to a tech to test/repair.

As G points out, the speaker wires are on the large 12-pin connector so that's why it is silent when removed...conventional or command.  This engine apparently has smoke.  Does it start smoking on command-mode powerup with the 12-pin connector removed?

As long as the 4-pin molex smoke connector is hooked up, you should be able to tell if the engine missed the watchdog and started up (assuming smoke was ON when you last shut it down).  This way you can rule out any wiring problems on the 12-pin large connector as the root cause of missing the watchdog signal when power is applied in DCS command mode.

Just an idea...
