RJR is correct.  Anytime you add someone else to the mix, things do not always go right.  If you send it to MTH, you have a better chance of getting it back quicker.

If both markers went out, a reset like Chuck stated would have fixed it or the correct soft key.   That would have been in the book you received with the engine.  If your dealer is an authorized dealer, he would know that.  It seems to me like you are taking a shot at MTH without cause.  When you talked to MTH, did you ask when they received it from your authorized dealer?

How about telling what the engine is.  Was this a new engine or a flea bay queen?

Sidebar to MTH Repairs.

I call MTH Technical Support about twice a year and they have always been able to resolve the issue on the phone. Only one time I had to send in a locomotive back to their service department. It was repaired with a new board and returned in about 15 days.

I also use my local hobby shop, for repairs while you wait.

I believe I talk to Diana and sometimes Jeff. 410-381-2580. MTH Tech Support.

The hours are M- F, Noon to 5:00 PM, but this may have changed.

This was a Penney F-2 aba unit both aa was something going on. I tried reset and resetting the tops but it was something else one engine had different lights out then other  engine. I don't have time to mess with this crap any more so I sent it in. But I did call and they said they where far behind so all good when I get them back I get them back I will not be running durring winter anyway

Over the last 15 yrs I've sent in 3 engines. 2 were warranty, I got those back in 3 weeks. One was outside warranty. They told me 6 weeks and I got it back in 7.  Sending back 2 engines out of 40 in 15 yrs for warranty is pretty darn good.

I've contacted Midge in parts 20-30 times for various issues, she treated me great and always found a way to get me the part I was looking for.

When outside warranty, I've contacted Marty or GGG for repairs and always got great service, at an outstanding price.

If you consider how many individual products MTH has sold over the years (the number has to astronomical) to expect them to service outside of warranty is pretty unfair. MTH would have to have a huge service center, the cost of such a center would be very prohibitive.

Jeff,

IMO the next time you have something you need fixed, contact George, GGG here in the OGR forum, I do believe he is authorized to due MTH warranty work, his knowledge and work are top shelf, (Guns) GunrunnerJohn also does great work, however I do not know if he is authorized to due MTH warranty work or not.  Marty F also does great work and he maybe an authorized MTH repair center.
