Looks like a beautiful locomotive and The Daylights are gorgeous trains.  

Thankfully for my wallet I’m modeling a small PRR branch not the Espee.

Lee Marsh's English prototype models are extremely  well done.  If Lee is able to produce this model it should be at the outside edge of state of art.

You know that is a good question. If I had to guess I would say 2 rail only but one could ask the builder.

Need to ask the importer but probably 2 rail only. 

High end brass importers will not build 3 rail models. Lee Marsh makes high end models and these will only be available in 2 rail.

I go to England every year and his models are regarded as the best, well above my price range, I still have a look at his locomotives and rolling stock and talked to people that have bought them. He usually has a stand at Guildex the largest O Gauge only show in Europe that's where I have seen his models.

If you can afford to spend that type of money it would not be wasted.

Now back to my plastic locos!  Roo.

You have to download PDF reader software, which you can find with a web search.

For the collector/ modeler the 4500 price in the current [futures] market does not seem out of line from an importer with a proven track record, DCC ? JMO

Actually, price is not what would hold up production of these models. It would be lead times and production delays. People won’t stand for 10 year project time frames and constant delays like you get with the “K” importers. He’ll produce a pilot model and the reservations will come in. I plan on reserving one

While I am not the target audience for a Lee Marsh product (at least for now), it would be interesting to see a comparison between his GS-4 when it is available and 3rd Rail's GS-4.  I would really like to see what you are getting for the extra $2K.

Well, I do 1/32 and narrow gauge (brass) in two rail. I know some individuals don't prefer smoke but do like sound.

I have had an Accucraft Narrow Gauge Denver & Rio Grand K-28 converted to DCC Zimo Sound and a back EMF smoke unit converted by TrainLIusa; love it.   I hope the Marsh engines  get made and sell very well!

I also realize that Kohs and Key models  (like the cab forward that finally came out, with sound) are pricey and well respected.  I think the cab  forward, if still available was around $5400.00

Key Cab forwards were more like $7400 and they sold out quick.

these models will have ESU LOKSound XL decoders factory installed. He updated the web page to regl3ct thins information.

Well, a KTM USA type Daylight model would be a good thing, and I agree that $4500 would be a bargain for that kind of quality.  The Daylight shrouds cover a lot of detail, and even the Max models had that detail.

I would love to see the scrambling to assemble the pilot model the evening before the March meet.  KTM showed us the cored castings a year before production started.  Even MMW showed us some photos before his production started, or even before pilot models appeared.

I have no standing to comment.  As much as I like Daylights, I have no desire for this level of purchased model.  Doesn't mean I won't admire the craftsmanship.

Per Lee, all models will have detail behind the skirts

LoL! Definitely not for me. Looking at that price a little voice inside my head says to contact Matt Forsythe and have him rebuild my Williams Brass T1 in 3 rail with lighted number boards and class lights!

I've been around the hobby almost all my life and seen some wonderful models if you want high quality you pay for it, if you don't, buy plastic or die cast but one thing I learnt. don't knock people who want the best. I wear a $50 Timex watch not a $25,000 Rolex watch but if you can afford those things why not? My son makes more money in a week than I made in a year he works very hard for that, doesn't make me wealthy I still battle away happily on my veterans pension I have everything I want, I still live in the first house I ever bought using a war service housing loan, I still fly economy class (and hate it!). 

Not referring to anyone in particular, my opinion only, don't want to start a them against us argument.

I assume purchasers are going to be running them and not just display them as a work of art. Does anyone know about the operating qualities of the models?

If its anything like his English stuff (and most likely is) they will operate better than a fine swiss watch....

Mate, here in England/UK, 3-rail O is very much a tiny, minority interest - the absolute total opposite of the situation in the USA. It would never even enter the head of someone like Lee Marsh to think of offering any loco in 3-rail.

Third Rail/Sunset is not high end?  I'll be safe, as zero to none chance a prototype of interest to me will be offered.....this already a problem down in much thicker atmosphere.

I didn't say that - but they are US people looking at the US market. Lee Marsh is looking at things from a UK perspective, where 3-rail just doesn't enter the equation.

We're getting some really good, highly detailed ready-to-run 2-rail O Scale models of smaller British locos now from manufacturers such as Dapol & Minerva; 0-6-0 steam tank locos and diesel shunters, at the £200 mark. Nobody - just nobody - in Britain is calling out for 3-rail versions of them.

Nobody in Britain who can afford Lee Marsh's models will want them in 3-rail, either.

I would have presumed that you were talking about passenger cars but I had to ask. 

Eternal optimist hoping that some other freight car freak like me just might want to produce a model that I'd be interested in.

Another inevitable but not yet asked question is to whether he would be offering them in finescale wheel tread or P:48 profiles?  Again a very small market but a question worth asking.

If I had the money to buy his coaches I would be scared to even touch them! Not really, but I would wear cotton gloves.

I don't know why I'm even on this thread it's way above me. I'm happy with my fleet of Atlas SW'S.

Maybe one day I might be able to afford a nice running mechanism from JC for my Red Caboose GP.  Ha Ha . Regards. Roo.

No.  Scott does not consider "High End" importers his competition.

In 3 rail Scott’s models are high end. In 2 rail, his steam models are mid range and his diesels would be more high end for plastic models. He makes really nice stuff and it’s even better that his 3 rail diesels are 2 rail models with 3 rail wheels unlike everyone else who’s 2 rail models are 3 rail models with 2 rail trucks. None of the compromises to make them run on 3 rails are there
