All of a sudden there seems to be about a dozen older Lionel G scale engines on the "bay" for sale. Some of them say Railsounds equipped. Do you know if this will run on DC current? The boxes look like they are from the 1980's?? (1970's??) I'm guessing an early version with sound only?
I wouldn't think they ran in command mode back then?

All Lionel G scale is DC powered.
I have never seem AC powered in G scale.

I have the Lionel G scale Pennsy Atlantic steamer and the Pennsy Geep, both with Railsounds. They sound pretty good considering the time frame.
The layout is powered by a Lionel RW routed through a Lionel AC/DC Convertor Box.
It figures. I used to run with Lionel 180w AC bricks and changed to big Bridgewerks DC supplies because I was told, the signal would be better.
I didn't know the year, or if they were some kind of command board or upgradable. Thanks! I would like to hear the sounds.
It doesn't seem like Lionel stayed with G scale very long??
