For those who are spreading the rumor that OMI is no longer going to do  O scale needs to cease and desist. Brian is going to do more O scale locomotives, but needs to catch up on the HO projects do to the long delays of the last O scale project by the builder. He will be doing the SD70ACe NS Heritage locos. This is why OMI was absent from the Chicago show. Stephen

NJCB did the Alco S1-S4 series.

Carworks did the Alco HIghhoodss and the S1-S4 series.

 

I seem to see products from both importers at most O Scale shows.   So I am thinking it might not be a good time to those again and compete with stuff already floating around.    But I am sure that he has a better idea of his business than I do.

 

I would hate to see a new model come in and not sell.

While I agree with you about not selling, the problem is that many of us want state-of-the-art detailed models.    The older runs of brass don't do it and lots of us don't want to have to repower and superdetail brass... and the older Weaver and crappy Atlas Trainman doesn't do it.

 

CB and The Car Works  did ALCO S1/2/4's (and T6's IIRC).  AND Overland and S1/2/4's.

 

The problem is that they were done years and years ago.

 

At the March Meet last weekend folks were oohing about the premium price an old "Custom Trash" S2 gets. 

 

Guess what model commands the highest premium - the OMI ones, when you can find them. 

 

Thus the reason Overland and Key are so successful 

 

Would love to see someone do 21st century detailed ALCO S's and RS2/3's. 

 

Whether they would sell enough is another question and only one that could be answered by reservation numbers.

Probably more than likely would benefit from a tune up of the gears/sprockets along with changing them out for a different ratio as per Scace's article in OST a few years back as opposed to a new Pittman.

I ran my trio during the spring NYSME exhibition and they were great.  One of the best running sets of diesels I own running on plain DC.  The key is the powerful high-torque motor which powers the drive.  It has good slow speed operating characteristics, smooth pulling very heavy loads while also having good top end speed and usable speed range on a plain DC throttle.  The only concern is the high speed input shaft uses standard bearings and will likely wear out.  I'm looking to replace will ball bearings when they do.

Once the next run of SD70ACe/M-2s complete I have no doubt that Brian will run the GEVO's

While I agree with Mike P, Brian agrees with Mike D.  The delays in the last run ate through the profitability and this time they would be expected to deliver in a much more timely manner (about 1 year) ala Mike D's reasons.  So the wait for GEVOs would not be as long as any next run of SD70s t'other way round.

 

I told Brian now that I know that 3 is probably the minimum number for a livery to be a go there are a couple I will reserve 3 just to make it happen; like Ferromex or QNS&L.  And with CN noodling (pun intended) the Demo scheme that will probably have more takers.

 

So all you NS Heritage junkies interested in Overland Models start saving now!  I really only want the Virginian, although I really like the Erie and CNJ,  and the Illinois Terminal and Reading are cool too.

 

But, I'd be surprised if Penn Central even gets the 3 .
