I've just ordered a Lionel 783 scale Hudson, and now I'd like to start searching for some suitable passenger cars for it to pull.  Now, I don't have a lot of room for my layout (curves are mainly 036, with a couple of 042), so my choices are limited.  What I'd really like are cars that are short enough to go around the curves without ridiculous overhang, but still scale in height and width.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what passenger cars fit this requirement?  Thanks in advance.

Balshis: Don't know if you'd be interested or not, but I have a six car set of Williams "Replic-Kit" passenger cars lettered for NYC which I built back in the 80's that look good behind the scale Hudsons.

If you are interested I can get some photos for you; the cars are Pullman green copies of the original Madison cars. Lettering is via dry transfers which I applied so the car numbers are different along with the car names.

I am not running them anymore and they need a good home.

Lionel featured a set of NYC smooth sided aluminum passenger cars on the same page as the 784  in the Lionel Collector Series 1984 catalog. They were stock numbers 9594, 9495, 9596, 9597, and 9598.

A four car NYC standard "O" freight car set was also shown. I purchased the freight cars when they were current, long before I got the engine.

My problem with the Madison cars is that they're Lionel Lines, rather than NYC.  I don't think they're scale height/width, either, are they?

I had to look those numbers up.  They look pretty nice.

Thanks again to all who responded.  I've gotten some good leads, here.

Unfortunately, no they're not scale length, nor are the 9500 NYC aluminum cars. They match because the Hudson is not scale length either.

My posting about the 1984 catalog was an unintentional duplicate of information provided by PC9850.

Did anybody mention Williams cars?

At one time I had a five car set of Williams "Madison" cars decorated with a two tone grey NYC paint scheme. They were traditional length. They came in one large box, in Styrofoam, no individual boxes.

I have a set of those cars available that came with the recent Lionel Conventional Classics Berkshire passenger set. They are exact remakes of the ones used on both the Berk and the 1950 Hudson.
