i know I've asked about this several months ago, but I still haven't gotten the custom sounds to work.

When I use the mic in the handheld remote, I go thru the proper steps and choose the options to use the handheld microphone and when I hit record it always says "session stopped." I've tried resetting the TIU, even the engine. But no matter what I've done it always will say session stopped.

Could the remote need new batteries? The remote is working fine in every other aspect and I don't think the batteries are low.  It's just getting very frustrating.

Okay thank you Barry.

1) press menu button, scroll to the "sound" option.

2) select "sound" and scroll to "custom sounds" and select.

3) select "record sound"

4) select "DCS remote Mic" option.

(it then says 174 seconds of record time.)

5) then select, "press REC to start recording."

6) then I press the "REC option."

7) then it says "press a button."

8) I then select the "REC" option, (soft key, S1) And right away it says "session stopped"

i just don't get it... Anyway, any help is much appreciated, thank you again.

You're not doing what you should be doing. Follow these instructions from pages 37-38 of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition to record and play back a Custom Sound:

CUSTOM SOUNDS

• Scroll and press the thumbwheel to select an entry. The message "Building Sound List" is briefly displayed

• Record Sound allows recording a new Custom Sound

• Use the thumbwheel to scroll to the TIU in which the new Custom Sound is to be saved and press the thumbwheel to select it. If there is only one TIU on the layout, the list of TIUs is not displayed, and no selection need be made

• Select a sound source by scrolling through the list of possible sound sources and pressing the thumbwheel

• The available time remaining for Custom Sounds is displayed. A maximum of 174 seconds of Custom Sounds may be recorded for each TIU

• Press Soft Key S1 (REC) to begin recording the sound. Note that the sound may turn off after about 11 seconds, however, the Custom Sound will continue to be recorded

Press Soft Key S2 (STP) when finished recording the sound to stop the recording process

• Press Soft Key S3 (SAV) to save the recorded sound

• Use the on-screen keyboard to name the sound. Scroll the thumbwheel to each character in the name and press the thumbwheel to add the character. Scroll to D on the bottom row, right end of the keyboard to save the sound in the TIU

• Pressing S3 (SAV) is the equivalent of pressing S2 followed by S3

Play Sound allows playback of a previously recorded sound. Press the thumbwheel to select

• Scroll to a Custom Sound and press the thumbwheel to select it. The sound will play back through the active DCS engine
