Question about sandhouse....

Your request could be a tough one. First, I would make sure you can still purchase the Korber sandhouse kit. From what I have read and understand, Korber kits will no longer be produced.

Possibly, check out the posts by Patrick H. or Scrapiron. Both of them may have posted pictures on the forum of their steam era service facilities. I know Scrapiron had a recent article in OGR about his "ash pit". He may have one somewhere that shows in a pic. Patrick has been posting a ton of pics from his layout over the past year. I have seen this kit used a lot over the past 20 years but am coming up short on references.

With my limited amount of steam engines on the Eastern District, their sand domes get filled by a truck and conveyor. I have the Weaver brass "modern" ones installed at the diesel facilities.

That being said, I did find this Korber one.

I believe this is one of Stu Gralnik’s models that he offers. I have some of Stu’s work on the Eastern District, he does nice stuff.

Donald, You are right that the Kober kits are harder to find at present. I heard that something is in the wind to bring back the kits this year. Stay tuned

It is a shame about the Korber kits. I think the molds just "plain wore out". All of their kits had unique challenges but were all different.

I think you could also find other steam era sandhouse kits by searching the "Scenery Resource" page.

Don...I was able to look at Stu's work and he does a FINE job!! Thanks for the assistance. One question: I have a couple of the Weaver towers and thought they would work in the steam facility. I noticed in your post that you mention you have them in your diesel area....are they too modern for steam???

Bill...I have been assembling a lot of Korber parts the last few weeks with my power plant about to come on line!! Anyway, I like their buildings and don't mind doing some of the extra bracing,etc. to get them together. I did find the some of the Korber sandhouses at Justrains!! Just don't know what they looked like assembled.

Hey Alan. I found a pic of a HO Walthers facility that shows the drying house, steam and diesel sand towers.

There does appear to be a difference between the two towers, but not too much.

I am not much of a rivet counter, using the Weaver ones for steam seem OK with me.

Don...thanks again for your help! Good picture of two different types. I think I am going to move my Weaver towers over to the diesel facility....I have an older Max Gray tower that I will leave in the Steam facility. I appreciate you!
