I just acquired a second Railking F40PH/Locosounds which I want to use in tandem with another. As per Murphy (his Law) of the three I have (one rebodied) all made the same year they all run different speeds. Now two are very close to the same speed. So my question, would the slightly faster engine be better pulling or pushing the slightly slower unit. The speed difference equals about 1/2 to 3/4 inch gain per loop on a dogbone of 031 that fits on a 4 x 8 foot layout. It's not a high priority right now, but I intend to go through them and make sure everything is lubed, and oiled and then retest them.

I let them run some more and the gain was down to less than 1/4 per loop. Then after 30 or 40 mins the slower one became the faster one, but not by much. And definitely  faster in front, just found out why...............  I think they are close enough now. I'll bet on half of dual motored engines both are not actually turning the exact same rpm's, if they were allowed to turn freely.
