Repainting An MTH Caboose

I recently bought an MTH Santa Fe-prototype steel end-caboose and would like to repaint it into Santa Fe's brown scheme. Does anyone have any recommendations concerning disassembly? Also, what sorts of paint strippers work best without attacking the plastic?
