Looking for reset codes for a K Line Crusader with TMCC. This was one of the very few K Line took back and apparently factory installed TMCC. I can change the ID Ok but it is operating very erratic. I tried many  reset codes so far  that I think are the generic codes based on research. Would anyone have this locomotive and have the reset codes and steps. The manual doesn't have any Command instructions.Appreciate. Al B

SouthwestHiawatha, I don't know if it has cruise. Would there be a way to tell by inspecting the innards. The only manual I have is the one that came with the non Command set.This was a Boscov version with factory installed TMCC.Could one try both reset codes to see if one worked?

If by tach reader you mean alternating black and white tape on motor similar to what I have seen on MTH locomotives then no there is no tach reader. Not sure what a flywheel sensor looks like or what to look for. Erratic behaviours are slow response, no response, lights sometimes on, off, sometimes it moves very slow even at full power, almost like something is preventing movement. Motor and all gears seems to move freely when manually turned. I was hoping a reset would set everything right. It seems to accept ID change, and direction commands OK. Might just send this in for PS 2.0 upgrade.

Sounds like it could be an antenna issue. Die-cast steamers are notorious for them. To track down an antenna problem, the first thing to do is identify what and where the antenna is. Often the entire upper tender body serves as an antenna. Other times the antenna will be handrails on the tender or on the engine. The antenna will be connected to the motherboard with a single wire (usually gray). If the tender body is being used as the antenna, or if the antenna is inside the tender, the tender body MUST be isolated from the chassis by plastic washers. If any of these washers get lost when the unit is being worked on, the isolation will be lost and the antenna will be ineffective. Similarly, if handrails are used as an antenna, they must be electrically isolated from the body. 

If K-Line installed this then you have two choices. Aux1 4 is used for non cruise engines.

Aux1 74 is used for cruise engines. Try them both, it won't hurt anything.

its not common for non cruise engines to be erratic unless signal is weak as mentioned or the pickups and wheels are dirty. K-Line cruise might have this problem though.

Try the codes and report back.

Pete, I don't think that is correct.  My K-line cruise instructions state 4.  The 74 has to do with Lionel engine and inverting serial data for Rail Sounds.  Not cruise issues.

 

Al, the tach reader is a circuit board under the fly wheel with wires attached.  Doesn't look like a MTH at all, but doesn't look like a plain motor either.

 

Could be momentum set and speed step of 200.  The K-line cruise instructions are posted on the forum, do a search.   G

G, Not sure what code R2LC is in the tank engines but the Cruise Kits came with C08s. I believe all K-Line steamers came with R2LCs and motor drivers in the engine. Tender wires would be serial data, rear light, coupler. Not sure about markers but they likely used track power as the tenders all have rollers.

CO8s were also used in most Odyssey engines so they must have a capability of additional feature codes already.

Interesting, I have the Allegheny which I converted to Cruise with K-Line kit, but before I got the kit, I tried all the various steam codes to watch the effects and pretty much they all worked the same, except the codes that invert data killed the sounds in the tender.  It would start up in conventional.

 

The K-line cruise kit was semi generic, but the r2LC code was 4, and than it had the codes to set speed steps, which all seem in line with Lionel stuff.  

 

My question about tender tether was wire or IR, I am not sure if K-line ever went to IR tethers.   G

Ok, That is the key and your correct Bill.  0 inverts the Serial data, but 7 keeps it on in conventional.  Since the cruise boards need the serial data you need 74, 7 keeps serial on in conventional and 4 is steam.  But 4 works in a TMCC environment only.

 

So does ERR need 74 for conventional ops too.  G
