Russian diesel electric and electric locomotives from 2011...interesting!

That was 7 1/2 minutes of pure fun.  Thanks for posting.  Really cool to see some different steam and diesel locomotives.

I have a feeling I will be watching this video a few more times.

I would like to get a few foreign locos for my layout. So far the ones offered will not handle my 031 curves.

Fascinating video; thanks for posting it. According to the YT comments, it was an exhibition at Sherbinka, a suburb of Moscow, which is a testing facility for new locomotives. I enjoyed the shot of the "working" green locomotives in the middle of all the shiny new models.

Those engine are not really "sexy" are they!  I will take North American motive power over everything else when it comes to sight lines.

They have some very interesting locos. The 8 wheeled trucks were great to see. Their fleet has certainly improved.

I must have watched a different video than Mr. Metz did. It was 11 minutes and I didn't see any steam locomotives.

 

Here's a thought...if it's a factory test track, I wonder if it is a huge oval? It would then be a "railroad you can model" and it would be prototypical to have trains running around in circles.

If I were to model a test track loop, I'd prefer the one in Colorado so I could use North American trains.  The foreign stuff is cool, but I like my EMDs and GEs.

The green locos are powered by a copy of the FM opposed piston engine - same as used in the FM Trainmaster.  They are a favorite of Russian railfans, and there are some Youtube videos showing them working at full throttle in the mountains.  The sound is awesome.  I think the ones in the video were just working a freight through the exhibtion area.

Ya' gotta' love the "white walls". Also, some very hi-tech looking mechanisms on several of the trucks. Let's see MTH or Lionel try and replicate those!

Outstanding, Comrade!  Dah!  Those six motor/ four cycle hoods are the great, great grand children of the lend-lease Alco RSD1s we sent over there through Iran during the Great Patriotic.  We'll be seeing a lot more of this kinda stuff once BIRT goes through.

At least one had spooked drivers, see the 10:00 mark. Looked like two had what seemed to be disc for braking made into or bolted to the wheel.

Interesting units.

The old freight units shown in the middle are real smokers, you need to watch a couple videos of them hard at work, they can really the black smoke.

Russkies like them big, did you notice some of the truck axles were non motored support axles in some of the locos, however they interesting.

BIRT....Bering International Rail Tunnel.  The Russian side is well along, but we need to get moving and put down some serious trackage across Alaska.  In 20 to 25 years this should be reality...sooner if we get serious.

I agree the Bering International Rail Tunnel would be great for everyone...... Canada, USA and Russia!

If this thing gets as big as some folks are predicting, the Motherland may want to think about going standard gauge....but then again, mebby not !

6:07 - 6:47  were the gas turbine-electric locomotives, I believe.

 

There are many fascinating things being explored on the international scene in railroading. In many ways the international railroading community is more adventuresome than what is here in the US.

That's actually a 12 cylinder machine with 24 pistons....but what the hey!  Great FM sound there, and about as close to an H24-66 as you gonna get today.  Thanks!

Whoops!  I know, I meant pistons - duh!  Anyway, yeah, just close your eyes and imagine FM's humping a coal drag over the mountains.

Some of those electrics look better than anything Amtrak runs.
