SF Northern Legacy - Stops smoking

Hard to say, can you tell if the smoke fan is still running after it stops smoking?  It could be the regulator flaking out.

The fan shuts off. 

John doesnt this engine have the regulator on the main board ..From what he is saying if it was the smokeunit or the harness it be blinking .. Maybe it's a bad wire from the smoke PCM board to the motor.. But when the regulator goes out on the es44s it's does stuff like this. 

It does indeed, I've never tried repairing one of those yet, but if it's limited to one smoke unit, it could be a component replacement would fix it.

I think, even though it doesn't get the error blink, that I'd replace the fan motor first.
